A good overview of Ten Years Afters' catalogue.,

This CD contains all the better Ten Years After songs. It's basically a greatest hits package.A good sampler for those unfamiliar with TYA and a nice collection for those who are familiar with Alvin and the band.

alvin lee is obviously one of the most exciting guitarists ever to grace rock. he could rock it or jazz it up. his band kept pace with his delirious style. but he waas also a great understater. with so much talent, he would only give you glimpses, in a manner similar to eric clapton. he only breaks out on occasion. i have not heard the other ten years after cd. but this is a great compilation. one of the best classic rock cds you can buy.

Unsung Heroes,
By Matt Falder (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I'm Going Home (Audio CD)
I read somewhere that when Hendrix saw Alvin lee playing (With TYA) at Woodstock, he was 'Just a little bit Jealous'. After hearing this album I can see why. As a band, TYA are the amongst the great unsung heroes of the era. If you're into the sixties, get into this.

Those of us who are older and know good blues and rock guitarists know Alvin Lee. But not as well known are the stellar work by his Tens Years After band mates Leo Lyons on bass and Chick Churchill on keyboards. The fact that this Lee and this band remain shut out of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just shows what a joke the place is.
This disc contains samples from the wide range of musical styles they recorded. You've got rockin' blue with Woke Up This Morning and the slower ( most of the time ) more traditional Slow Blues in C. The mad dog rock of I'm Goin' Home and the more basic rock of Choo Choo Mama. Then there's my personal favorite the Jazz on meth rendition of Woodchopper's Ball. |
