3.0 out of 5 stars Very outdated
This book is very outdated as far as pictures but the text is okay and it provides useful information. I was going to return it but realized that the seller charged 1 cent for the book and 3.99 for shipping so I might as well keep it. I purchased this item to read to a kindergarten class but it does not seem appropriate for that type of reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for First-Time Hospital Visit!, September 17, 1998

This review is from: Going to the Hospital (First Experiences) (Paperback)
This book was absolutely wonderful in preparing my 2 1/2 yr. old son to go to the hospital to have his tonsils removed. The book is filled will real-life color photographs of what to expect during a hospital stay. It really prepared my son in a realistic manner verses "cartoon" or "drawing" style books. Through the photos, he understood what a hospital room looked like, wearing a gown, getting an armband, and seeing Doctors and Nurses in their scrubs and masks. This book also pictured medical equipment used for vitals, X-rays, IVs, and lab tests. By describing the pictures to my son prior to his surgery, he was not afraid at the hospital. Additionally, this book is not directed at any particular reason for being in the hospital, but rather what to expect when you are there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A photographic summary of a trip to the hospital., June 13, 1999

This review is from: Going to the Hospital (First Experiences) (Paperback)
This book was wonderful in preparing my child for his trip to the hospital. It has photographs so it's realistic and makes it easier to explain what your child should expect at the hospital. It covers long-term stays at the hospital, as well as short-term stays. I highly suggest it.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK!!, April 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Going to the Hospital (First Experiences) (Paperback)
This book is awesome!! My 3-year-old daughter LOVES it! It's very easy for her to understand, and the pictures of real kids having routine hospital things done to them is very helpful. She had a "surprise" surgery to remove a brain tumor 2 months ago and wasn't prepared for the hospital experience. When we found out she had to have another surgery, we immediately bought this book and read it 3 or 4 times a day for two weeks before her surgery. It has proven to be invaluable!!! Way to go Mister Rogers!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GOING TO THE HOSPITAL, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Going to the Hospital (First Experiences) (Paperback)
Great book for prepping for a hospital trip,a little dated, but we were even able to read over it again in the waiting rooms, and point out stuff that was in the book.We feel it help him prepare because it was "real" information, instead of always having cartoon characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going to the hospital, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Going to the Hospital (First Experiences) (Paperback)
I purchased this book in hopes that it would help ease some fears for my 6 year old, who needs an operation and will be in the hospital for several days. We read it every night, and it has really helped her. She doesn't seem be as scared as she was when we first told her about the surgery. It really helps prepare them for the stay. It's an older book, but still good information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, June 9, 2007
This review is from: Going to the Hospital (First Experiences) (Paperback)
Mr. Rogers always does a good job explaining difficult situations in his books. This one is no exception. I was pleased with the content and I was able to apply it to my daughter's situation of her specific surgery. Even though her's was outpatient and the child in the story stays overnight, it was still good for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great to help small children prepare, November 16, 2007
This book was a great help when preparing my 2.5 year old son for his operation. He knew what to expect and luckily, the preliminary exam such as taking weight and blood pressure even followed the exact order as the book. Some of the text was a bit too advanced for him, so I just simplified as I read it. The pictures are very 80's but so are a lot of hospitals. He was not at all frightened by what happened and this book was a big part of the reason.
