This review is from: Going to Japan on Business: Protocol, Strategies, and Language for the Corporate Traveler (Paperback)
Most people who go to Japan do not research the culture before they go. That means most business associates who often work with foreigners are not expecting you to honor the Japanese customs.

What this book does help you do is stand out from the rest. My Japanese colleagues were surprised and pleased that I bothered to research the customs before visiting, and I found it extremely helpful to know what kind of behavior and response to expect from them.

So in short, you can go to Japan without reading this book, but I don't recommend it. :)
