Proof that New Orleans jazz lives,
By
This review is from: Going Places (Audio CD)
If you're an R&B fan, you've surely heard of Allen Toussaint, and if you haven't, shame on you, for this giant of New Orleans R&B is the genius behind some of the best R&B hits of three decades, including the Dr. John classic "Right Place, Wrong Time" and the Pointer Sisters' "Yes We Can Can".
In this 2005 indie album, Toussaint lets his jazzier side run free with a solid, polished collection of songs featuring Toussaint on piano with a first-rate collection of backup musicians. From the sprightly opener, "Traffic," to the more melancholy "Is There Any Love Left For Us?", Toussaint and his Jazzity Project show that they have their post-cool chops down cold, and in the process demonstrate that New Orleans jazz is not completely frozen in the past. |
