5.0 out of 5 stars Getting There
In Going Places, E.D. Hill manages to capture the essence of that special something that makes an ordinary person extraordinary. The candid profiles and personal narratives provide insight into true success. Going Places is a must read for those of us who are interested in "getting there" with principles and dignity intact.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice coffee table book
This book will probably end up under my coffee table or on my decorative book shelf. It's a good book to have around for a few minutes of upbeat reading, but is by no means a self-help book. It includes pictures and thoughts from many well-known people, and although I personally did not know a lot of them, the ideas were still honest and true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncommon Denominator, March 18, 2006
This review is from: Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life (Hardcover)
As my 18 year old daughter was unwrapping her autographed copy of E. D. Hill's book "Going Places" on Christmas morning, I told her I wanted to read it when she finished it. By Spring Break she lent me her book, and I now understand why she enjoyed it so much.

E.D. Hill explores the common denominator of successful people from all walks of life. But what the reader comes away with is the clear message that it is not the common, but the uncommon things that successful people do that has led them to the top of their respective fields.

In a culture that embraces mediocrity and highlights those who stand out for all the wrong reasons, "Going Places" is a wonderfully inspirational breath of fresh air. For anybody with teenagers, E.D. Hill's book reinforces the message that not only is it OK to be different from "the crowd" and follow their life's passion, but it is absolutely essential if they wish to be one of the few with the courage and stamina to Go Places.

5.0 out of 5 stars As bright a star as an author as she is on T.V., December 19, 2005
This review is from: Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life (Hardcover)
E. D. Hill may resist the talk that she is a star as on Fox and Friends she is clearly a number one news reporter and commentator. Katie and others would do well to study this woman and how she approaches news. However, what we are most pleased with here is a book that is designed for all ages.

Ms. Hill, a successful professional news anchor, wife, and mother, has done us all a great service with her book Going Places: How Amewrica's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life. It is a series of vignettes of American men and women from every walk of life who has made it in their chosen careers. E. D. Hill has asked each of these outstanding people to reflect on the things that made them what they are. Ranging from Henry Kissinger to Donald Trump, each person interviewed gives thoughtful information that any classroom teacher would love to read to her class.

What is nicest about the book is that it may also be used as a reference. It is the sort of book you can go back to many times. I probably shouldn't say the nicest, as equally nice are the introductions by the author and the very last short section in which she gives us a glimpse of her own life.

You know that this is a person you want to know better and would welcome in any gathering. She herself is as inspirational as the people she writes about.

This review is from: Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life (Hardcover)
A great book! I found that I could really relate to some of the stories people had to tell. This book makes you realize that we all have hurdles to overcome and we just need to pick up on some of this good advice and use it! A real attitude changer! It's done well and is easy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Primer For a Successful Life !, December 12, 2005

This book was a great idea and it is superbly written. You will cry and laugh and you will take something practical away with you. This is a book that could only be written by a journalist with access to a wide variety of successful people in a wide variety of disciplines and occupations. Politicians, athletes, artists, cowboys, educators, adventurists, fashion models, they are all here with fascinating accounts of the one thing that triggered their success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, October 25, 2005

I like the ease with which you can flip through this book to find what motivated the people who motivated you. It is easy to read and very informative. You may hear a lot about famous and important people, but may have no idea how they got to where they are. With all compliments intended, I would consider this book an intellectuals version of "PEOPLE" magazine. Informative and insightful while at the same time very entertaining.
Enjoy the book. I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars E.D. Hill Is One of the Good Ones - And Going Places Helps Display This, November 9, 2005
This review is from: Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life (Hardcover)
I've read Going Places. I like it - really like it. Whether you are an accomplished person in life, on your way, just beginning the start or just a plain couch potato who would rather sit there and live vicariously through others - this book's insights are inspirational, valuable and offer merit as lessons learned. And as much as it's inspirational, it's a fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Inspiration, December 5, 2005
This review is from: Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life (Hardcover)
How I wish I had read this book when I was younger!! I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! It brought an out an intimate side of people who, otherwise, I would have never known what made a difference in their lives. This book is a must-read for young teens and young adults. I hope E. D. considers writing a second book. I plan to buy a few extra copies for gifts....perfect for a graduating high school or college student!

5.0 out of 5 stars Going Places Makes It To All The Right Destinations, November 9, 2005
This review is from: Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life (Hardcover)
E.D. Hill has produced a work that takes us down roads that have led others to their right destinations. In a world were we are constantly immersed in what is wrong, this book succinctly captures the hope and spirit that human nature thrives upon. The last chapter alone is worth the price of the book.

If you have a teenager, get this book in their hands. It will be a blessing to their heart and mind. As superintendent of a school district, I am making sure that copies are being made available to our middle and high school students.

With this book, E.D. Hill has made a wonderful contribution. She takes us down the roads others have traveled while lifting our spirits up.
