Adding various contributing artists was a bad move.,

I must say first off, I'm a HUGE fan of Montags first two albums "Alone, Not Alone" and "Goodbye Fear" (sadly I cannot find this CD anywhere, if anyone knows where I can buy it, please add it into the comments section). With nobody but himself and that women's background pure voice (who I think is Amy Millan) made for two perfect albums. Listening to tracks "Best Boy Electric" and "Going Places" off of Going Places really got me excited for this albums release. Those songs are great but everything else is a little weak in vocals and overall sound. These "contributing" artists don't add much to Montags image but just add "blah" to the songs (and make his album seem like the album was up for grabs to any artist willing to work with him). Unlike the other albums, I've only grown on 4 songs. Personally I find albums including different artists make that album more of a "Various Artists" album then their "own" album. It's great to have some others do "remix's" on a separate album but Montag shouldn't have focused half his album to "who-are-they" artists. 4 stars for trying something new and the songs he did himself were fine, but the rest of this album needs to be more of his own.
Listen to the songs first if you like his other two albums, otherwise if your new to his sounds, don't bother listening to this album. It's not the "real" Montag. |
