Travel videos take all kinds of approaches: some focus on the budget trip; others are for the rugged traveler; and some like to get deep into a city and rub elbows with the locals. The
Going Places series, hosted by James Avery, doesn't do any of these. This is a vacation video in the ultimate sense, a virtual tourist trip from your living room, and it's all the more fun for it. Brief on the history but heavy on the lush scenery,
Going Places: Turkey will have you longing for the intricate designs of Istanbul mosques, the luxury of palace hotels, the cool kayaking on the turquoise coast, and the laziness of a boat charter on the sea. We follow the journey of Eric, an American returning to Turkey, as he visits the family of friends and trolls the streets of Istanbul. Couple Billy and Michelle hit the coast for some rest and relaxation. They visit tourist sites (including the rug market and a trip to see belly dancers), and while we get only a slight glimpse of the history of the land, we get a tremendous desire to visit this fascinating country that spans part of two continents.
