Biography

Scots-born singer, songwriter and actor Colin Hay is best known as the lead singer of Australian new wave popsters Men at Work.

Hay moved from his native Scotland to the sunnier climes of Australia in 1967, when he was 14. Guitarist and singer Hay formed a duo with Ron Strykert and together they formed Men at Work in 1978. 5.0 out of 5 stars Sleeper Album of the Year, May 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Going Somewhere (Audio CD)
Out of left field (Australia, actually) comes Colin Hay, '80s pop star as the voice of Men At Work, lately reduced to quiz show trivia question. He has re-invented himself as a solo artist, almost a folk artist (check out the guitar style), and has delivered a set of beautiful, sometimes sunny, sometimes bittersweet songs. His voice is strong as ever, and his lyrics range from memories of childhood to the strength he's gained from giving up drinking and smoking. This is a real sleeper, sure to surprise anyone lucky enough to hear it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an Amazing CD this is! acoustic guitar at its Best., February 12, 2002

To me the best part of all of Colin's earlier work was his harmony vocals that he adds in the studio, I love to hear all the very differen't and amazing ways he overlaps his vocals, So when I heard this CD for the first time I was surprised to hear just an acoustic guitar and just colin's single vocal track. He really sounds great in this format, the songs are very beautiful and melodic and I can never get tired of hearing this CD. Do yourself a favor and don't let this one pass you by, just buy it! you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acoustic music has never sounded so good!, June 21, 2001

Acoustic music has never sounded so good! Colin Hay has reached perfection with his 6th solo effort. His mastery of harmony, song writing and guitar is unmatched, Hays soothing vocals and reflective lyrics leave you wanting more. If Hays vocals sound a little familiar, they should, he fronted the Australian Grammy Award winning band Men At Work. Since going solo in 1986 Hay has improved dramatically with each album. His latest effort going somewhere is the best acoustic album in years- bar none. If you aren't familiar with Colin Hay, or think it's Men at Work revisited- think again, Hay has achieved a distinctive style all his own. If you haven't done so already, take the time and introduce yourself to Colin Hay, you'll be glad you did!
