Book Description

2010
Short play collection. A Note from the Playwright... "There are two ways to view human nature:  all are good, and bad people are the exception; or all are bad, and good people are the exception.  We sometimes trust people simply because we know them, or because their position implies they can be trusted.  Once, a stranger provided what I needed in an emergency--something the people I trusted did not provide.  This challenged my assumptions about who we can, and do, trust.  Your task?  Which view of human nature is true for you, and which is the exception?" Play #1: Flying to Santa Barbara - Four strangers are thrown together "like "Lifeboat" without the cannibalism" and band together-perhaps-to reach their common destination. ~1 hour 6 minutes. Play #2: Higher Learning - Professor K is a respected educator in "Higher Learning"-but will he abuse his position of trust? ~15 minutes Play #3: Subway - Tiffany must choose the least dangerous of two tense situations. ~17 minutes. Varying cast sizes and breakdowns.

I've seen these performed. "Flying to Santa Barbara" is a funny look at four strangers stuck in a perfect storm of travel malfunctions. "Subway" will challenge you. The writing is clever, tight, and takes you deep into the issue of personal trust.

Read these plays. Then get a cast together and put them on stage. You'll have a hit on your hands!
