The going VEGAN cookbook, February 4, 2007
This review is from: The Going Vegetarian Cookbook: Delicious, Easy, Low-Fat, & Cholesterol-Free Recipes (Paperback)
My primary beef (no pun intended) with this book is that it's a vegan, not ovo-lacto vegetarian, cookbook. It's difficult to go "cold turkey" (okay, pun intended) and cut out all animal products at once, and since few people do, I think the book is poorly titled.
The part of the book that does match the title is the the glossary of grains and other standard vegetarian items most people who grew up on American food have never heard of--like tempeh. That part is relevant and very useful to people who want to expand their diet options.
As far as the quality of the recipes, I would rate most of them fair. If you can buy the book for under $5 do it just for the lasagna recipe which is excellent. My other favorites are the tofu fish sticks, tofu meatloaf, and simple black bean recipe.
