This set of 30 flashcards (measuring 3.375 by 5.75 inches) helps kids learn rhyming words and recognize common word endings, syllables that sound alike, and letter combinations with sounds. On one side of a card is a colorful visual clue for the rhyme at the top: for example, the card with the words "A goat on a..." has a drawing of a goat on a boat. On the other side is the correct word with a black-and-white drawing of it. To use the cards, read the words aloud while showing the child the illustration, then ask him or her to fill in the rhyme. After you've played one round, play it again faster. As you continue to play, have the child make up other words that rhyme, or make up memory games or rhyming sets. Several word-beginning and word-ending cards are included to give early readers hints for new rhymes. (Preschool to grade 1)
