whoa! i'm still tingling!,

alice has grown up. at least her sensibilities are grown up. GOLD is a true gem in a sultry, insousiant, pouty and sexy way. lively and talented instrumentation compliments the smokey depth of ms. schneider voice. tracks blow away the begining career tracks of the likes of PJ Harvey. While PJ Harvey could have been a contender, alice texas is poised for the kind of greatness that is rare and oh so worthwhile.

All that glitters and then some.,

"Gold" is poised to become one of those rare albums that future Alice Texas fans will diligently seek out while older fans will remember with warm sentiments. The cuts are raw and original and completely unburdened by the usual indie-rock or alt.country stylizations. Here are the salad days--caught on tape--of a future shining star. The music ranges from melancholy, twangy rock to up-beat garage to haunting, bluesy ballads. Alice is un-ashamed to show her true emotions of love, happiness, pain, sorrow and desire. Grab this one before she gets huge!

too bad,

i really, really wanted to like this album. but the vocals, to my ear, sound more nasal than twangy. as i listened, no song leapt out at me - rather, i found myself continually losing interest in it, as the whole album never really varied, never rose or fell, never went anywhere. once it was over, i had no desire to hear it again. i suppose i mean that i found it boring. i'm sad to say this, because their sound has potential, but this album was neither exciting enough, gloomy enough, or atmospheric enough to keep my attention.
