Many statements have been made about the legendary Conway Twitty.
Enough cannot be said or overstated. He remains the King of Country Soul. His versatility, his quality style, his emotions that sweeps the heart in song, his honesty with simplicity, and
his unique way of being mystic with words paralyzes the listener
to long for more! Move over, listen to pure sounds of depth that no singer of our time has matched. He is and remains a master of
American music. Here is a good sampling of the CONWAY TWITTY sounds that has touched millions to this day. Buy this CD and relive the music that helped place country and pop on the charts for decades. Relive the classic days of true quality music that will never die. Get the best! Get Conway's music. You will not
be disappointed. Here is a lifetime and beyond of great stuff
for now and for the future. Thanks Conway. We miss you! I love
George Jones, Jim Reeves, Charlie Pride, and all the greats. But Conway is in a field of highest quality......all alone. Reach the peek........buy Conway.....be a first-class listener. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice overview, but get the box set if you can, May 31, 2006
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Stretching from 1968's "Next In Line" to 1986's tame "Desperado Love," Conway Twitty's string of #1 country hits is indeed impressive. Yet his amply annotated and illustrated Gold forgoes 10 (including "Somebody's Needin' Somebody," "The Games That Daddies Play" and a few duets with Loretta Lynn) that spent a single week at the top in order to expand the chronological set's reach, hold it to 40 songs and provide four 1958-60 MGM charters predating his country career.

A set titled Gold inevitably skips his long-unissued Sun sessions recorded under his original name, Harold Jenkins, and obscure Mercury sides done after he became Conway Twitty, somewhat based on Bye Bye Birdie's character Conrad Birdie. The emphasis is hits: partly narrated "Happy Birthday Darlin'," nostalgic "Play, Guitar, Play," a not-too-disco "Slow Hand," three duets with Lynn. So personal is his tone that any woman could imagine he's singing "I Would Love To Lay You Down" just to her in her home. His voice holds its own against "I May Never Get To Heaven"'s grandiose backup. An abdominal aneurysm felled Twitty in 1993, at a young 59, just two years after his final top-10 country hit, the package's finale "I Couldn't See You Leavin'."

Get the four-disc The Conway Twitty Collection (1994) for the most complete picture of his career if you can afford it.

If you are looking for a Greatest Hits album for Conway Twitty, this is it. Mr. Twitty has never sounded better than in this fantastic collection of highlights of his decades-long career. He graced us with a number of memorable hits in his time, and this collection assembles the best of them, in my opinion. Songs of lust, love, infidelity, and heartbreak abound. Of course the standards are included, like "Hello Darlin," "Slow Hand," and "The Rose," but we also get treated to gems like "I'd Just Love to Lay You Down" and my personal favorite "I See The Want To In Your Eyes." In the hands of any other artist, these songs would represent tired country cliches. In Mr. Twitty's hands, they are indeed Gold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conway Twitty/Gold, March 16, 2003

I just ordered this on CD, I have it on cassette& vinyl. This has a hard to find song on it,"I WAS THE FIRST," & also the song,"ROSE". Not to be confused with, "THE ROSE" which He did great, as I feel He was the best. This is a hard to find CD, I was lucky to have it on a cassette, vinyl. I have just about everything He ever had released, not bragging, but I first heard Him sing when I was in the 5th grade, now I am 53, and I will love His singing until I can hear it no more. For Conway Twitty lovers, get this CD, it is a rare find,& the price at amazon.com was the cheapest I could find it,also their was only one other place where you can get it new,& you'll pay double even if you don't get the free shipping when you order it.I took His death hard, but isn't it wonderful, we can still listen to His fabulous voice? No one had the vocal range He had. If your a lover of His music, this is a must have for your collection, the two songs I mentioned, I have not found on any other CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars good for short car trips, January 1, 2003
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
This low budget album contains only eight songs. The material was all recorded in 1982 with the exception of 1986's "Riverboat Gamblers". It isn't of any good sound quality but i give it four stars because it's Conway and four of the songs can't be found in print anymore ("Southern Comfort", "I Was The First", "It Turns Me Inside Out", and "Riverboat Gamblers") and if you're a young fan and don't have vinyl albums or turntables, hearing these songs are worth the purchase. However, this proves that his catalogue of albums from the late '70s and early/mid '80s can be re-issued on CD...so why are MCA and Warner Brothers not doing anything to keep his studio albums in print on CDs? The hits collections are great (this CD contains only one hit, "The Rose".) but his album tracks were just as good. Until Warner Brothers or MCA gets on the ball and re-releases his albums on CD format, we'll have to settle for CDs like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthy collection, May 29, 2006

This Conway Collection is one of the few out there with all original recordings. For some reason Conway (and others) had a habit of re-recording songs 3 or 4 times a decade only to be released on compilation albums. This one, however, contains 40 original recordings, with great sound. While I'm not a fan of his later stuff (the late-'70's onward), the first Cd of this 2-CD collection contains some of the finest country gold ever to hit the air. Such hits as "Linda On My MInd", "15 Years Ago", and "Next in Line" make this first Cd a favorite in my CD rotation. The 2d CD however, contains a lot of his later stuff that lacks the soul and sincerity that made Conway a Country legend. However, if you're a fan of the Pop Country sound, you'll enjoy this 2d CD as well. For the true Conway Twitty fan, this Cd should be on the top of your list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conway's Gold, September 17, 2010

We lost a powerfully emotional voice when Conway Twitty passed away in the mid-1990's. Everything he sang seems to touch someone in a personal way. This cd comprises much of his best work, from the incipient rock and roller to the famed country artist he became. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars impressive, September 2, 2008
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
This was one of my favorite collections, not just by Conway Twitty but by anyone. "15 Years Ago," "Hello Darlin," "Julia," "Desperado Love," and many others of his greatest hits are on this 2-disc collection. Any fan of Conway will love this, and it will make a fan of non-fans. It met and exceeded my expectations.
