5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely her best, most awesome sound yet.
Crystal Lewis' "Gold" CD has an interspersed reflective quality. It shows up in all the songs on this album. She "broke out of the mold" on her "Beauty for Ashes" CD and just when I thought she couldn't top her song entitled "The Lion and the Lamb", once again, she breaks out of the mold with "Not the Same". The songs...

3.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Voice, Long album
Crystal has such a powerful voice, it seems a shame to not match it better to a variety of different music. Some tracks here shine, "Lord I Believe in You" and "Lean on Me", for example. But even some good songs here seem to just go on and on. Compared to the rest of the world Crystal still sounds gorgeous as usual. Belting out 5 minute long...

The songs on this album from the reflective "Tommorrow" to the introspective "Gold" carries almost an ethereal quality. The song "Dyer Road" teases you to remember our own time in "walking down a Dyer Road" of our own. "For Such a Time As This" reminds us of obstacles overcome with Jesus. The very reverent "Lord, I Believe In You" is a favorite with vocalists everywhere. "Remember Who You Are" summons us to do just that. The rest of the album carries almost a "crying out" quality to look inside ourselves and see that sometimes we have tremendous life altering experiences that forever change our lives. Crystal's music on this album will set your soul to longing and your heart to rejoicing in a personal call to wake up and ask "What About God?" Awesome! I would strongly suggest her companion book to this CD, "Gold, A Devotional" written by Crystal telling how each one of these songs came to be.

I really like this CD. I bought it when it first came out and never listened to it. Then I put it in and was like WHOA! and fell in LOVE with it! I prefer 'Fearless' b/c it's a little closer to my style (black gospel/R&B) but I love this CD. Its old, i know, but still great!

This was the first CD I purchased from Crystal Lewis. I was blown away by the passion in her voice. The title song "Gold" is truly inspiring and my favorite song when I need encouragement. I'm looking forward to checking out other CD's by this artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Gold" is indicative of content, as well as title., December 14, 2000
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
"Gold" has got to be the most powerful introduction to Crystal Lewis' love of Music and God, all in one CD. Lewis' powerful, expressive voice soars over truly intense material, and forces the listener to journey with her, whether that journey be religious or spiritual. Songs like "Tomorrow," "Return To Me," "For Such A Time," and "Remember Who You Are" force the listener into a sensitive self-examination. "Gold," "Lean On Me," "What About God," and "Dyer Road" express a need for faith throughout sorrow and hardship. "Why," "God And I," "Be With Him," "Not The Same," and "Lord I Believe In You" are expressions of what I assume to be a true Christian's faith in God despite, all that stands contrary. I suggest this album for Crystal Lewis' musicianship and vocal prowess, but most of all I suggest this CD because the journey is one that the devout atheist, stalwart Catholic, questioning Christian, and even I, the non-religious believer, can, have, and will gain from.

Crystal Lewis I have just recently bought and I think that it is one of the best choices that I have ever done. My friend is constantly trying to steal this CD but I wont let her. It has a mix of different type of music from jazz to slow caring music. I love gossipel music and Crystal Lewis just makes it amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gold is a Gift from God through Crystal Lewis, April 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Crystal Lewis' "Gold" is a compelling compilation of praises and provocativity. "Gold" doesn't preach the words of the Bible, but it asks the questions as Christians do. As opposed to, I know God is with me, it asks why can't I see the God that I once knew and loved. And, depression isn't a pre-requisite for listening to "Gold." If more gospel music sounded like this, I would probably listen to more. I was pleasantly surprised by my second sample of Crystal Lewis since Roundhouse went off the air on Nickelodeon (the first being "Lean On Me).

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful vocals get the job done in 'Gold', December 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
In a few words, Crystal Lewis' latest album is pure Gold. She remains faithful to her South Californian roots, bringing a combination of a few joyful upbeat tunes along with slow-paced R&B flavored ballads where she uses her powerful vocals to bring encouragement to those who are going through difficult situations.

Long-time fans will find that there's nothing new, musically speaking, but one noticeable thing is that the songwriting here is a little more mature, a reflexion of her growth as a Christian and mother. It would be nice to see Crystal combining well crafted lyrics like these with a little more risky musical direction on a next project.

Crystal Lewis has been getting a lot of exposure on media lately because of her appearance on Kirk Franklin's latest single, 'Lean On Me', where she shows her awesome vocal range. This invitation to join stars like U2's Bono, R. Kelly and Mary J. Blidge, to name a few, is only the confirmation of her talent as a veteran singer and songwriter that has been around for more than 10 years

If you enjoy listening to powerful and soaring vocals combined with traditional pop arrangements, pretty much like Mariah Carey's or Celine Dion's albuns, then you should check this album. It's not groundbreaking, but it's very, very solid.

I have to admit I didn't know much about Crystal Lewis before she teamed up with Kirk Family to do the song "Lean on me" which is extraordinary! Her voice is elegant and powerful and she proves that she can ride hard with any secular divas. Her album is a good mix of Gospel and contemporary christian music that has tinges of R&B. She is one of Gospel's best kept secrets. It is also interesting to know that she won the Dove award for 1998 vocalist of the year (Christian eqvivalent of the Grammys!
