FINALLY, a properly remastered CD of this classic Elmer Bernstein score,
By
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
One of Elmer Bernstein's best scores is from the 1974 Peter Hunt directed film "Gold" (also one of Roger Moore's better non-Bond films). The product description for the CD speaks for itself, so I will not rewrite it. 2 of my favorites here are Jimmy Helm's epic reading of the title and end-title "Gold" tracks and Maureen McGovern's love theme "Wherever Love Takes Me" which plays while Roger Moore and Susannah York's characters fly to her vacation house.
I will comment on the technical side: - Sound quality is AAA+. The fidelity and dynamic range from the original vinyl ABC Records release is properly preserved while eliminating the clicks, pops and surface noise that often plagued the original vinyl issue caused during the manufacture and packaging process - The complete recording is presented here without edits or in re-mixed form changing the original album master sound mixes. - Liner notes are amble and informative including new commentary on the soundtrack and also including the original back liner notes from the original release. For fans of the film and also Elmer Bernstein fans alike, this is a wonderful album. Grab one before they go out of print.
