This review is from: With a Strange Device (Paperback)
Russell (1905-1976) was a British writer from the golden age of science fiction. He was known for his humor and his quick, clever writing style. With A Strange Device (alternative title, The Mindwarpers) was one of his last books-- published in 1964. It is a novel of the cold war, with a focus on technology and espionage rather than the more classic space theme of most of the science fiction of the time. With a Srange Device is the first Russell that I have read. I found it very cleanly written, and I liked the diction. I enjoyed it enough to keep an eye out for other works by the same author. Should be of particular value for people interested in science fiction of the cold war period. |
