5.0 out of 5 stars Best of from 1975-1983
A great overlook of Joans time at A&M Records from 1975-1983. The 43 songs on this two disc collection include a soundtrack song and studio songs that were tacked on a live album and two "new" songs that were incuded on a greatest hits album. Me, Myself, I was her most popular album, and there are 8 of the ten songs from it included here. Don't know why record...

Don't know why record companies do that. Seems that if it were her most popular album, then all the fans must already have it and would like to hear other songs. This CD is a great overview of a career in motion. The songs are in cronological order and the listener can hear the growth and change of her talent thru the years. Highly recommended. Liner notes are only so-so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joan at her best, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
This is a very fine collection. It seems to have all of the best songs recorded by Joan during this period, including many that I had never heard before. My favorite tracks are Show Some Emotion, I'm Lucky, and Me, Myself, I. No one had a blend quite like Joan's; part rock, part folk, and part jazz. This blend is most apparent on disc one, disc two has tracks that are closer to the realm of pop with mixed results. I don't care for the last third of disc two, and especially dislike I Love it When You Call Me Names, a sadistic homage to domestic violence. What could Joan have been thinking? Nonetheless, there is an embarassment of riches on these two cd's, and they'll be spinning in my system for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation of greatest hits, January 6, 2008

This is a great collection of Joan Armatrading's "greatest hits" which helped to fill out the gaps in my collection. Although this disk only covers Joan's work for A&M Records for the period from the early 70's thru early 80's, I believe it includes ALL of her hits as I am not aware of any hits that don't appear on this compilation.

Sound quality is superb, and the songs are as well -- hence the 5-star rating. However, the liner notes are inadequate (consisting of a biography and the original album on which each song appeared. There are no original release dates and no lyrics).

Oddly enough, when ripped to my computer, the CD database registers this CD as "Love And Affection: Joan Armatrading Classics 1975-1983" with a release date of 2003. I'm not sure why this is ...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album - But A Rip Off, May 26, 2007
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Why do companies insist on re-releasing albums under different names and try to pawn them off as something new? The great compilation "Love And Affection: Joan Armatrading Classics 1975-1983) is still on the market. This is track for track, even in it's order, the same as that. If you like Joan Armatrading definitely buy ONE of these two wonderful compilations, but DO NOT buy BOTH unless you have some money you feel like throwing away. And for that matter, if you want to throw it away, just mail it to me!!
