D.A.F. were one of the first minimalist type synthesizer dance bands from the early 80s. Starting as a multipiece, they pared down to a duo in 1980 with their second release, "Alles ist gut". "Gold und Liebe", their third release, is a dark sweaty excursion into euro-dance circa 1981. Robert Gorl provides all of the music, mainly pounding drums and dark brutish synthesizers, while Gabi Delgado brings forth the heat as he growls and purrs his way through the LP/CD. Gabi sings in German, but don't let that drive you away. The music is very powerful... sweat and leather on the dance floor. Don't miss this one. One of the real precursors to trance and techno.

After the landmark albums "Die Kleinen und die B�sen" and "Alles ist gut", the release of "Gold und Liebe" was followed with little interest, since there were no surprises: this album is a poppier follow-up to "Alles ist gut" (the structure is almost the same), sacrifying their dangerous aura in favour of a more hedonistic form of pleasure. Their sound has a little bit more of colour, but it is much easier to find sequences or texts alike to other from their previous albums. Nicer but also showing some void.

I first heard this way back in the 80's. Back then Synth was new and great. Mind you, it has lost nothing. It is still hard music, guttaral sounds. You don't need to understand german either. Before I read the english of Wershende Deine Jungen I thought it was a big fight song, turns out to be a sort of love song. There ya go! But it is worth listening when you have had a few, or a bit of the other, and just going to a different place in your head. Dated? Now way!
