Biography

Beyond the tragedy, the history, the raging guitars and the killer songs, ultimately, Lynyrd Skynyrd is about an indomitable will. About survival of spirit; unbowed, uniquely American, stubbornly resolute.

With their first set of new studio material since 2003’s Vicious Cycle, legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd returns with God & Guns, due out September 29 on Loud & ... Read more in Amazon's Lynyrd Skynyrd Store

Lynyrd Skynyrd's GOLD is basically a repackaging of their excellent 1998 anthology, THE ESSENTIAL LYNYRD SKYNYRD, so if you have the earlier collection, there's absolutely no reason to buy this one. However, if you don't, run- do not walk- to your local record store and buy it- fast!

As you can see by the track listing some of them are live. I would rather have the studio version of Gimme Back My Bullets, and the live version of Gimme Three Steps. I also could have done without the Live version of Free Bird as the studio version is also included. That would have freed space for one or two more tracks, maybe The Needle and the Spoon. But overall a good sampling of a great band. Their first album was released in 1973, and Street Survivors in 1977. It's amazing to see the number of great songs they produced in that short period of time, many of which you still hear every day on the radio.

I must disagree with a previous reviewer who said if you already own "The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd", there is no reason to buy "Lynyrd Skynyrd Gold". I have a very good reason. Share the music. This album makes a terrific gift!

This CD has it all if your looking for a great Lynyrd Skynyrd compilation. It exceeds the excellent Blue and Gold compilation with additianal less known hits, but great songs in thier own right.

When I purchased this LP I thought to myself, "Oh well, another Lynrd Skynryd greatest hits album." Boy was I ever fooled, for the first time in along time, I had a Lynrd Skynyrd Greatest hits LP that was more than just "Freebird" and "Tuesday's Gone. This LP actually contained some of their lesser known hits like: "Four Walls of Raiford",and "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" along with quite a few others. One great collection of music.

That may be true, but at least it will match my 30 other "Gold" discs. ;-)
