Sun Gold Malibu PJ is, simply put, a 1980s Barbie collector's dream. She's usually affordable, not too hard to find, and simply gorgeous. She uses the popular Steffie face mold, and she is simply dressed in a silver swim suit, and includes a towel and sunglasses as her simple accessories. What makes her so special?

Her facial screening is simply to die for. When you own this pink box doll, she is from 1983, which makes her a borderline deboxing year. My advice: debox and restyle. You won't regret it! She has a very neutral facial screening, which is unusual for 1980s era dolls--usually seen in blue and purple eyeshadow. She looks wonderful in everything.

Her hair is fantastic. It's dark blonde with light blonde streaks. While she is one of the dolls with oily styling from the factory, you'll find that a gentle rinse with mild hand soap will free her from this residue, and make her curls soft and stylable. Sun Gold is a redresser's dream.

One interesting thing to note: this doll's head is made of hard, thick vinyl--not the soft squishy vinyl of the other dolls of this era. I don't know of other dolls made with this type of head; it sure makes me want to debox my Dream Date PJ, however!

If you come across this doll, buy her. I did. I am even considering a second!
