This has to be one of Dave's best books. It is right up to date and this is in 2008. Everything listed in this book is still where it is supposed to be. Bookmarks are good. This has to be the best book I have seen lately even his Detector section is still up to date. Now that takes some doing with the way electronics changes on an almost daily basis. So far nothing seems to be out of date.

A good work,will reread much of it. Should be on the shelf as a reference for those interested in Gold.

It would take a lot of research to find a better place to start, so why bother? This book answers all the questions you would have about getting started in the hobby of gold!

I know nothing about gold mining but I gave this book to my father based on other's reviews. He said like everyone else that it was the best,most comprehensive book on gold he had read.I think he was actually surprised I picked out a good book for him !

This book covers it all, on sluicing, dredging, and everything else you want to know about.

This is one of the better books around on gold prospecting, I was reading another review about the legal aspects of prospecting the BLM and your local state are the spots to look for leagal aspects of prospecting, also there is alot of real knowledge that Dave missed like properly processing black sands or concentrates using a miners wheel ,blue bowl and mini sluice with blidge pump, or how to build a gold dredge or a highbanker, I am a Industrial Technician with the skills to design and build my own equipment, because $1295 for a beach box without a pump is just to high!!! I built my own with a 4 hp honda pump and 7 sq ft of riffle area for about $195 including a used honda pump, selling equipment to a miner is a real gold mine!! It cost me $150 to buy a piece of 16 guage aluminum 4x10 ft and I can build about 3 or 4 pieces of equipment out of it, a highbanker a dredge and a large sluice box or highbanker dredge combo, with aluminum left over for other projects, I have been a certified diver and prospector for 35 years but have never really written much about it, unlike Dave I am a real Vietnam Veteran and did a year in combat, Dave states in his book that you can build a dredge but does not go into it much, if you have the skills and training you can do just about anything and that means almost nothing is impossible, ya know no one has really written a book on real usfull recreational mining equipment that anyone can build and recover gold with, the manufacturers act like this stuff is really sophisticated equipment nothing could be farther from the truth, it is easy to build and use, if you cannot afford metal to build your equipment you can build a highbanker out of plywood and it will last 10 seasons easily just coat it in spar varnish every year, so if you wnat to prospect do not be afraid to build your own equipment, you will still find gold!!!

A disappointing buy. I must have made a mistake while looking through the info because I thought it will be something about modern techniques, with color pictures. Instead the only colour was the cover. Rest of book was monochrome, illustrations are not very useful.

I purchased this book, along with "A Fist Full of Gold", from Amazon.com for my husband to have for his new hobby. It, too, was a wonderful addition to our library. The book came in the condition described, within the time stated and is full of information. Tremendous bargain at Amazon's awesome prices. Thank you.

This book is a must have for anyone considering gold prospecting. Even if you are a veteran gold prospector, you will find this book useful. I will always carry this book with me in the field!

Doesn't cover the very important legal aspects of mining.

Nothing in it that you can't pick up in a few days of looking for gold.
