A Collection That's Worth The Money,
By
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Finally, a New Edition collection that gives a nice selection of major hits and dynamic album tracks all on two discs. There have been quite a few single disc compilations over the years, but none as comprehensive as this latest release. We all know the group had plenty of jams as well as a bunch of solo hits that we want to listen to as well. Classic gems from early in their career include "Lost In Love," "Count Me Out," "Mr. Telephone Man," and "Cool It Now." A few album tracks from then sneak on this double disc as well, namely "Earth Angel," "My Secret (Didja Gitit Yet)," "With You All The Way," and "A Little Bit Of Love (Is All It Takes)." The middle years brought a few more group cuts like "If It Isn't Love," "Your Not My Kind Of Girl," "N.E. Heartbreak," and "Crucial" (the 12" version is featured on here). But those middle years also brought about everybody's solo albums too.
Bobby's smashes are represented on here with "My Prerogative," "On Our Own," "Don't Be Cruel," "Every Little Step," "Humpin Around," and "Girlfriend." Ralph's solo joints include "Do What I Gotta Do," "Sensitivity," and "Money Can't Buy You Love" from the Mo' Money soundtrack. Johnny Gill is finally given his props after being left off most other N.E. collections. His featured songs are "Rub You The Right Way," "Wrap My Body Tight" and "My My My." Bell Biv Devoe round out the solo cuts with "Poison," "When Will I See You Smile Again," and "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)." The later years bring all six members of New Edition back together with the release of Home Again. "I'm Still In Love With You" "You Don't Have To Worry," "Hit Me Off," and "One More Day" are the classics from Home Again that are added to this colossal collection. New Edition to this day don't get the respect that they rightly deserve. They set trends, they came with it for years as a group as well as on the solo tip, and they are still going strong to this day. According to Bobby Brown, they are planning a national tour with all six members taking part. Hopefully they will have time in between to record at least one more classic to add to their arsenal. Gold shines bright and will please any New Edition fan in addition to those who just want a massive package of their biggest hits. N.E. Forever!

My girl's like candy a candy treat,

For starters it is missing "Candy Girl" but since that is a Streetwise release, I guess they couldn't get the rights. It sounds exactly like the "Hits" compilation, which is an improvement over the previous releases.
People might ask why should they get this. Well this album also contains solo hits from all of the members, even JG, who was not included in the "New Edition Solo Hits" CD compilation. If you already have all of the discs then I would suggest passing on this, but if you want all of the solo hits including JG's then go ahead and purchase. Let me add - the version of "Rub You The Right Way," while the hit new jack single version, does not have the rap by CL Smooth. Just wanna let you know. The version on Number Ones has the rap.

I recommend this CD to anyone that is a super fan or you like certain songs and do not want to buy a full CD. Believe me..you will find the song on Gold. They did not miss anything with this one. I LOVE IT!!!!

This album is the best!,

I am enjoying this album so much! If you are a true, die hard, fan than New Edition Gold must be added to your collection. It is missing a few of the other hits, but it made up for it with the others. I highly recommend GOLD!!!

Excellent collection of New Edition, solo and other groups' hits!,

I don't know how this compilation producer did it with combining 34 of the New Edition, solo and group hits, even bad boy Bobby Brown! This is better than the singular 70- and 79-minute best of CDs that didn't cover everything. I would have liked Candy Girl, Is This The End and Jealous Girl on there, but I'm sure the group had to go through some legal mess to get the rights. But aside from that, this group shows how much they've grown and evolved in two decades, from Cool It Now, to the funky late '86 hit Once In A Lifetime Groove (which I played a lot last year!), to If It Isn't Love, to Can You Stand The Rain to Hit Me Off. The solo offerings from the street mental sounds of Bell Biv Devoe to bad boy tough guy Bobby Brown to the soulful Johnny Gill to the smooth singing of my boy Ralph Tresvant are well represented in this collection. I could play any one of these songs if I wanted to--everything I love is on here!!! Groups like Jagged Edge, B5, the Backstreet Boys and others should thank this group a million times for inspiring them. They brought class to music and still do today in their performing. A dynamite collection of their best records!

I've always loved New Edition, right from the get go. They always sound great and this cd encompases so many hits including heaps of songs they all did years later as solo artists. It includes a group effort on I'm Still In Love With You which is such a beautiful song. I love that, and one of my all time absolute favourites is also here and it's My My My by Johnny Gill. You should all buy this for this song alone especially if you like bedroom music. These guys are all so talented and solo or as a group, you can't go wrong with this purchase. It's great.

I really love this cd. I just wish it had a few more of my favorites on it. Their absence may be because many of my favorites were not singles or mabye they just didnt have room....

Great anthology of the Boston crew, but...,

Ralph, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ronnie and Johnny too. The classic sextet (started as a quintet, then quartet, then quintet again, then sextet, whew) these R&B crooners have struck GOLD. A double-disc CD of mad N.E. hits, solo jammies by Bobby, Ralph and Johnny and smashes by Bell Biv DeVoe.
Sounds great to hear a majority of their classics in a CD set. Even soundtrack hits like "Once In A Lifetime Groove" and "Helplessly In Love". The things that gets on my nerves about this double disc is that "Candy Girl" and "Is This The End?" are MIA here (the two hits that started it all for New Edition) and as for solo hits, Bobby Brown dominates the set (also in photographs of the group, why?) with 6 solo cuts, Ralph Tresvant has 3, Johnny Gill has 3 and Bell Biv Devoe 3. Fair? Not really. This is New Edition GOLD, not Bobby Brown and New Edition GOLD. Bell Biv Devoe's "Word To The Mutha (Remix)" (which includes Ralph, Bobby and Johnny) and/or "Something In Your Eyes" should be here as well as "Stone Cold Gentleman" by Ralph and "Fairweather Friend" by Johnny and omitted Bobby's "On Our Own" and "Humpin' Around". For 34 songs, it's a great collection that could have been slightly better. From child stars to adult superstardom. From bubblegum to the grown and sexy. From boys to men. This IS New Edition's finest.
