Good for Maps and Directions, June 14, 2011
This review is from: Gold Nugget-Teering and Prospecting in Nevada: Book 1 (Paperback)
This is strictly a book on maps and directions to the most notable places in Nevada where gold has been found in the past. There is very little mention about best prospecting practices in each area or prospecting in Nevada in general.
For most of these locations you have a map on one page and a brief description and directions on the other. Don't expect to get too much information in the descriptions - they're brief, sometimes containing only directions and history on how the gold was first mined. But the maps are detailed and the written directions seem accurate.
There are roughly 60 detailed locations (keep in mind Nevada is a very large state). Most of these locations are up north. If I had to guess I would say about 90% of the locations are north of Tonopah.
I live in Southern Nevada so I was expecting more locations for my area. I know there isn't much gold in the south, but there are a couple sites in my area that weren't mentioned in the book.
Overall, if you're looking for a book that has good directions and maps to a handful of locations, than this is the right book for you. If you're looking for a book on prospecting in the desert I recommend
Where to Find Gold in the Desert or prospecting in general
Recreational Gold Prospecting for Fun & Profit.
A few things to keep in mind about this book...
1) organized by county - but still a bit unorganized
2) 2000 copyright
3) the few prospecting practices presented in the book are scattered across different location sections
