A truly essential collection,
By
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
This is a great collection from one of funk music's most prominent groups covering 1974 through 1979. It showcases the band as wonderful and gifted musicians. The album features their two most popular hits, "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster" both reaching #1. In addition, it contains several minor hits, a few album cuts, a live track "Alone" and even a Christmas track "Happy Holidays Pt 1". The booklet features chart information as well as an essay giving the band's history (they were the Ohio Untouchables in the beginning).
If you like funk music, you'll definitely love this collection. If you're new to the Ohio Players, you found a great place to start. The first disc runs 69 minutes and the second disc 64 minutes.

the ohio was one of my favorite groups in my high school. I always did like their music and wish that were making music now. The group made great music over the years. Their style of music was one that made it a favorite amongs people who like r & b/

always been a huge fan of the Ohio Players. they blended some of the greatest soul Music of the mid to late 70's to me. Sugarfoot with his trademark growl and his smooth Axe work. the keyboard work of Junie Morrison and others is timeless. they had a syle all here own. they could play any and everything and yet keep it funky. very versatile musicianship always. must have music then and now.

This CD takes me back to the mid-70's when an afro was allowed to grow to any length it would grow, basically. Sugarfoot, the lead singer, is a prime example of this. Anyway, this is a collection of, in my opinion, Ohio Players' best songs. Fire, Love Rollercoaster, Skin Tight, I Want To Be Free, and so many more great songs are on this album. I'm glad it lives up to the definition of a greatest hits collection. It leaves nothing to be desired.
