The Ultimate Collection,
By
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Yes, this is the ultimate collection--literally! In fact, it is a track for track reproduction of UTV's 2000 release, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION. However, with that compilation now out of print, this 2005 MCA release is the definitive collection by default. Casual fans may still be satisfied with 1988's 12-track GREATEST HITS, but any serious music fan will want this comprehensive 32 track 2-CD set. Although she died tragically at age 30, she has continued to influence everyone from Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton to Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris and most recently LeAnn Rimes. But make no mistake, there was only one Patsy Cline, and songs like "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces" will be country classics for as long as there is country music

fine collection of hits by Patsy Cline,

Patsy Cline Gold is a terrific two CD set collection of some of Patsy Cline's greatest hits and ballads. The sound quality is very good and the artwork is very nicely done as well. This is a keeper for Patsy Cline fans; and people who want a thorough introduction to Patsy Cline's artistry will be pleased with this as well.
"Walkin' After Midnight" starts the first CD with a wonderful number by Patsy; she aces this easily and I love how she delivers this ballad with all her heart and soul! Patsy Cline's uncanny sense of timing and her excellent diction enable her to sing this song--and many others--so very well. "A Poor Man's Roses (Or A Rich Man's Gold)" has a very pretty melody; and I really like "A Poor Man's Roses (Or A Rich Man's Gold)." "True Love" features Patsy taking a classic love song and giving it a fine country twist to make it all her own! "Crazy" is probably one of Patsy Cline's better known hits; and I could never tire of hearing her sing "Crazy" in her beautiful style. "Have You Ever Been Lonely (Have You Ever Been Blue)" features Patsy front and center--right where she belongs! The melody is great and the music fits in perfectly with Patsy's singing of these lyrics. I also like "South Of The Border (Down Mexico Way);" "South Of The Border (Down Mexico Way)" gets the royal treatment from Patsy Cline who delivers this effortlessly--she was THAT talented! In addition, "Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home" shines bright as Patsy gives this a sensitive treatment at a slower tempo than I'm used to--but it all holds its own very well. "Heartaches" is yet another tune that Patsy takes and makes into a country classic thereby putting her own stamp on it; and this sounds very good. The second CD continues the hits. "Anytime" has Patsy singing at her very best; and the harmonica adds a lot to the arrangement! "Half As Much" is a tender ballad that I enjoy hearing when Patsy Cline sings it; and listen for "When I Get Through With You (You'll Love Me Too);" this is some great ballad and Patsy really shows her might on this tune! "Back In Baby's Arms" is about a love that goes over a few bumps but lasts despite the rough times; and there's also "Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You)." Patsy performs this ballad with panache and this really impresses me; she must be born to sing songs like these! "Always" is another fine song that Patsy Cline delivers with lots of style and grace. "Crazy Arms" is a number that stuns me with its beauty; and Patsy never sings a superfluous note! The two CD set ends well with "Sweet Dreams (Of You);" this is a fantastic final ballad and it leaves me wanting more! Patsy Cline was clearly one of the greatest female country singers were ever saw; and I doubt there'll be another quite like her for some while to come. Patsy's fans will love this and it makes the perfect introduction to Patsy Cline and her artistry.

With all the Greatest Hits compilations Universal/MCA has forked out in the passed 5 years, they have failed to release a collection ( with the exception of the Boxed Set, '91 ) that does real justice to Patsy's magnificent and versitile voice....until now. GOLD compiles most of Patsy's shining moments and stands as the best collection yet by the the country music legend that once said " If you can't sing it with feeling, don't"

This is a great collection of songs at a great price by the all-time best female country singer, Patsy Cline. And another thing this set has going for it, is "Imagine That" appears in true stereo not in mono as in the 4 CD Collection box set and in the Millenium Edition. Patsy Cline Gold contains 32 carefully selected tunes at a great price, so if you're wondering where to start get this one. Trust me, you'll love it.

It is a great two c.d. collection of Patsy Cline. Having searched for a good collection of her best work, I believe my search ended here. First, the music is very clear, it does not sound faded as somce collections do. It also offers quite a few songs per c.d, some of which I have never heard of before. If you like a good love song, this collection is for you.

This was a wonderful CD of all my favorite songs. It was a great sound and sounded new even though it was a digital remake of her original songs.

This two set CD is an amazing set of the work of Patsy Cline. While I listen I wonder how many more memorable songs she might have created had her life not ended so soon. My favorite is her rendition of "Always".

Rick Roberts wanted to cry, wanted to just go into a corner and cry. Of course, as a man of the 1950s, of the hard-hearted Cold War shoulder-to-the-wheel, no prisoners taken love wars of the 1950s that was impossible. Impossible as well because although he felt himself a man in many ways, large, strong, virile and smart enough to make it to sixteen without too many mishaps he was still a boy, a Clintondale High junior boy. And that was the crux of the matter. No self-respecting boy (and, maybe, no self-not respecting boy if it came to it) would dream of going to a corner, or anywhere else, and cry, or let it be known that he was about to cry, or that he had cried at all past the age of six, maybe earlier . But Rick still wanted to cry. And it took no deep thought, no deep insight, no nothing to know the reason- a woman, well really a girl. June Davis, his "June Bug" (his pet name for her, although he would be the first to tell you do not, under any circumstances, call her that, or else-the "or else" part related to his being large, strong, virile and sixteen).
And, of course, if it's a woman driving you to tears then it is almost a certainty that there is some guy behind the scenes stealing your time. And the name of the thief in this case is one Freddie Jackson, June's elementary school flame, or something like that, but back a while ago. For christ sakes. And the way that Freddie did it was not so sneaky, well not sneaky, backdoor sneaky, but right in front of Rick at the last school dance. Freddie, for old time's sake he said, asked Rick if it was okay for him to dance with June Bug when they played Patsy Cline's I Fall To Pieces. Rick didn't think anything of it, he wasn't much of a slow dancer and June liked the song and wanted dance. What Rick didn't know was the song was something like "their" song, their song for christ sake, along with Patsy's Always and So Wrong. Rick thought Patsy was okay but not enough to make her songs "their" songs. Jerry Lee's Breathless, for very private reasons, don't ask or else, was their song (and for fun, as joke between them, since they met at the Wash-All Laundromat, Leader of the Laundromat). And now he is poring though every Patsy record he can find like Crazy, She's Got You, Why Can't He Be You, Back In Baby's Arms, and Sweet Dreams Of You to figure out where he went wrong, and how to get his June Bug back. Back from that Freddie Jackson, for christ sakes.

I'm biased. I knew Patsy and booked her when I was a DJ. Patsy(real name Virginia) was one of the finest female singers country music ever had but I knew something most fans didn't This woman could belt the hell out of a jazz or blues tune. She was more then just a country singer. She was one of the best singers period. Some of that shows in this CD. Her version of Bill Bailey Won't You Please Come Home is one of the best ever recorded. She grabs this tune and gives meaning to every word, starting off slow and then swinging it to a fast finish...jazz at its best all the way. This cut alone is worth the price of the CD which is 95% country It's been 48 years since she died and she is still selling records AT A TIME WHEN MANY OTHER PERFORMERS ARE HERE TODAY AND GONE TOMORROW.
