Upon first getting this book, I thought that it looked cheap and not worthy to buy, but since it was a handbook I thought I would give it a try. Less than 10 pages into this book I knew that this was the perfect beginner book that I was looking for. It gives you a basic undestanding of all the "Basic and Essential" equipment needed for the just starting prospector. It also goes into detail on how and where in the river to look for placer deposits. I didn't really care for the large section on dredging because I have not begun to get into that yet, but when I do, you can rest assure I'll be cracking that book open again to that section. I would highly recommend this book to anyone getting started in prospecting.

Jack Black is not new to this business of prospecting and gives us the most useful info at an affordable handbook price! Years of experience and knowledge are put on a "golden" platter before the prospector! I would not leave for the field without my "Gold Prospectors Handbook!" Get yours and you'll know why!

I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about geology and placer mining. My only real complaint is that the book is not designed very well. Barely any headings or sub-headings. It makes it a bit confusing but the information is really good. Its also very small and I am definitely going to have it in my pack for my next prospecting trip.
