This book really deserved the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice award for Best Harlequin Presents 1994-95 that it won. Absolutely quality romance delivered by an author that helps U escape for an hour - or two - from your nerve-wrecking day-to-day life. Nicolas Santino never forgave Sara, his wife, for what he believed as an ultimate betrayal of his love. He doesn't accept that Lia is his daughter. Until one day every mother's nightmare came true, Lia has been kidnapped. That means he has to save the little girl's life with every ounce of his intelligence & money. But seeing Sara again after 3 years of separation has unwittingly opened up his suppressed desire for her & made him think of starting new. Sara has grown up from the painfully shy girl that everyone - from Nicolas' adored father & high-class friends - snubbed into a strong-willed woman who fights tooth & nail to get what she deserves & not being brow-beaten anymore by Nicolas & the bullying father-in-law. But of course, Nicolas, the dark-haired, sexy-as-hell Sicilian millionaire, scored a few points himself in their battle of wills, with his unflinching determination to break down Sara's barrier. Provocative is the word - as mentioned in the back cover teaser - to describe the buzzing sexual tension throughout the story. The ending could've come out straight from a romantic classic movie, a reminiscent of the first moment the 2 of 'em met that left Nicolas lovestruck. If you're a sucker for corny stuff like this, then it's definitely the one for you.....

The story is about an estranged wife who encounters her husband again after 3 yrs because her child was kidnapped. He left her after finding her in a compromising position with another man & thinks she's pregnant with this other man's baby.

Michelle Reid has been an inconsistent read for me. BUt this book was suprisingly good! Hero & heroine had their Big Misunderstanding that lasted 3 yrs. Reid portrays heroine as weak & submissive early on in relationship and shows her growing emotionally & maturing with strength as she struggled through her relationship crisis. Writing pulled me in emotionally & made the book hard to put down, thus a very quick read.

Fast paced and full of tension. From the opening pages to Nicolas finally finding out the truth this is an intense book. So why only 3 stars? I didnt like the father of Nicolas and I wish Sara had gone out on her ownnot sat around for three years in Nicolas house in London. Did she do it for spite? A good, strong book, but I felt something was missingeven though I liked it.

im Sicilian although raised in the states, my parents werrn,t and i often saw the stubborn attitudes and fierce pride displayed in this book. This book had me crying, made me angry an curse all Sicilian men for their shortsightedness and stupid vendettas and pride. This is a must read. I will remember this story always and reread it.

FANTASTIC MICHELLE REID!!

I read this book last night and loved it...I love Michelle Reid she is such a great writer,I love the way she brought Dio and Sara to life.. I loved Sara because she stood up for herself and her child no matter what and I loved that Dio was there for her even though he did'nt believe Lia was his child. You saw him change and grow... very good book!!

This book was very emotional. If you are looking for an intense book, this is the one. If you are looking for something light and fluffy, I would wait to read this one on another day. However, don't skip it as it is a very good book.

I've been a romance reader since the 1970s. This is one of the best I have ever read. Intense, painful, and forgiveness all in one dramatic story. Since reading this book, I have added Ms. Reid to my "must read" list. I would recommend this book to any romance addict. Way to write Ms. Reid.

Nicolas and Sara have a meet-cute, fall in love and get married after a short, whirlwind courtship. But as what always happens after making a lifetime commitment with someone you barely know, misunderstandings and arguments are soon the norm. Sara's new father-in-law despises her and undermines her at every opportunity, but only when Nicolas is not around. Cripplingly shy and uncertain even before meeting Nicolas, Sara is made even more so when she is thrust into her new role of wife of a man of wealth and privilege. Nicolas' constant absences for business trips makes the situation worse for Sara, who is left to deal with on her own, a father-in-law who hates her and ridicules her to family friends and even the servants.

In an attempt to get rid of her, the father sets her up so that Nicolas finds her in a hotel bedroom with another man. But Nicolas' (as both a form of punishment and because he doesn't believe in divorce) instead of divorcing her, sets her up in a home and refuses any direct contact with her. When Sara announces that she's pregnant, he refuses to believe the child is his, especially because Sara had lied about being on her period right before he left for a business trip.

For 3 years, Nick refuses to grant her a divorce but also refuses to see her.

When Sara's daughter Lia is kidnapped, Nick enters back into her life. It takes a while for her to put aside the hatred she's had for him for the 3 years he has denied his daughter, but in the end, her child's life is more important to her than her hatred and she asks Nicolas for his help. Tragedy reunites them and this time they learn more about each other than they did the first go around.

My only real problem with this book is that Sara never tells Nicolas what his father did. I get why she kept it a secret, I just don't agree with her keeping the secret. But when Nicolas finally learns the truth about what Sara went through and that he missed out on 3 years of his only child's life, the emotions all but leap from the page.

From the very first page this book captured my attention and never let go of it until the very last word. Excellent story telling. Enduring and endearing characters. A must read for any Michelle Reid fan.

Everyone seemed to enjoy this book but for me, it was a complete bore. It wasn't as fast paced as I expected it to be. I like the characters, but I wasn't 'feeling' the chemistry one bit, and it was such a serious read, no time for humor, and I can understand, with the kidnapp and all..... Yes, something was missing: humor and chemistry!
