3.0 out of 5 stars A decent B-side (and not much else), July 19, 2010

This review is from: Gold / Roll & Roll Is Alive (Audio CD)
I was excited to get my hands on this item, for I love Prince's b-sides (anyone who knows Prince knows that his b-sides and album outtakes have nothing to do with lack of musical quality); unfortunately, this particular track, 'Rock And Roll Is Alive', is quite the exception.

It isn't terrible, but gets old incredibly fast. It'd be a great song for a concert (as is obvious from the title); the lyrics are rather bland, and it's definitely not one of his better written/produced pieces. I love all the other Gold Experience-era tracks, outtakes and all, but this one just doesn't work, at least not for too many listens.

One thing I'm never a fan of are guitar solos; well, this one's got a rather ear-splitting one.

So, if you're a completist trying to get every obscure b-side out there, this is a CD for you, but don't get too spendy, you not find it to be worth it.

Also, the edit of Gold is good, I like the song, but out of context of the album it doesn't work nearly as well.
