5.0 out of 5 stars The evolution of the medieval capitalist, May 24, 2007
This review is from: Gold & Spices: The Rise of Commerce in the Middle Ages (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book for those of us seeking to understand the rise of commerce in the late Middle Ages. For many of us, it will also be an introduction to the diversity of commercial interests as well the degree of interdependence between the emerging centres of commerce which included Bruges, Constantinople, Genoa, London, Lubeck and Venice.

Originally, I bought this book to try to understand aspects of trade depicted in Dorothy Dunnett's excellent House of Niccolo series. The book has served me well beyond that particular application.

Highly recommended.
