Book Description

October 5, 2005
The miraculous author of The Mind Tree breaks the silence of autism once more with a second collection of poetic stories and startling leaps of imagination.Diagnosed as severely autistic at the age of three, Tito, nearly nonverbal, was brought up by his loving moth-er Soma, who taught him to read English and challenged him to write his own stories. The initial result was The Mind Tree, published in 2003, which Tito wrote between the ages of eight and eleven. The Gold of the Sunbeams is an equally impressive, beautiful collection of stories, each prefaced by a charming note from Tito explaining how the story came into being. Above all, this is the work of a true poet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shining Gems, January 22, 2011
This review is from: The Gold of the Sunbeams: And Other Stories (Hardcover)
"The smile's returning to their faces.
Here comes the sun..." -- George Harrison, 1969

This book is a collection of stories and their genesis. Tito Mukhopadhyay who has severe autism is also a gifted writer and has been featured on numerous TV programs. In this particular book, he gives voice to the life experiences he has had with autism and provides readers with explanations for his responses to the world at large. To make a good thing even better still, Tito's mother Soma has written the introduction.

Tito writes in word murals; his use of language is vividly colorful and warm, like sunbeams. In fact, this book is like watching a beautiful sunrise. Like a sunrise, he literally draws readers into the world as he has experienced it; people gain a greater understanding and appreciation of autism and how it impacts lives.

Each story is like a shining gem. You get to "feel" an array of beautiful colors, the colors of emotion and experience, of hope and creativity.

We need more books like this. Tito and Soma are Ambassadors on a Goodwill mission of hope and education for people with autism and their families. Their insights have proven invaluable and Soma has since written a book about her method, Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) Understanding Autism through Rapid Prompting Method. I am proud to say that I have witnessed an RPM session and it is very intense, direct and effective.

Instead of books by "experts" who speculate about a condition they don't have, you get the real deal from someone who has autism.
