At more than $6 per pair once shipping is taken into account, I was hesitant to buy these. Thus, I went to Walgreens instead and purchased the "ultra low liner stay-put heel" made by No nonsense. $3.99 for 2 pairs! They're marketed for women but it works great for my boat shoes. And don't worry about the size either... I'm a Men's Size 11 wide, and the women's 4-10 fits me easily.
I bought a set of these to wear with my boat shoes since one certainly doesn't want to commit the unforgivable fashion faux pas of wearing socks with boat shoes. God forbid. I hate wearing shoes with no socks though so these things really save me. I ordered them based on the size recommended here and they're perfect. I've never had one come off and they make going "sockless" tolerable.
i will say they are extremely silly looking and amount what I jokingly call foot panties. I wasn't thinking and wore them to the airport the other day where I, of course, had to take off my shoes to get through security. I slipped them off and there I stood with my oh so manly foot panties while the security folks directed me back and forth and to and fro. <sigh>
For me, these are functionally perfect though and I won't hesitate to buy more when I need them.
Update: I just stopped in to order another package of these and thought I would update. These have held up well for over a year and not stretched or lost their elasticity at all. Reading the other reviews from folks I see that most of the complaints come from those with larger feet than mine. I have a size 9 foot, regular width and these really are perfect for me. I'm only ordering more because two of my three pair have been absconded with by members of my family who have started wearing Sperrys on a daily basis.
I bought these to wear with my loafers, but after taking about a dozen steps, the heel would slip. At about $6 a pair, these socks, that slip and cause discomfort, hardly seemed worth it.
After reading another reviews, I agree that there are cheaper, better options. One review mentioned that Walgreens sells ultra low shoe liners (that really look just like these). I found some at $5 for 2 pairs, with a heel grip in the sock, made of cotton/polyester blend, not to be confused with sheer liners. I went to get the Walgreens socks the same day these arrived just to compare, and I returned these Gold Toe socks immediately.
The shoe liners at Walgreens are all "marketed" to women, listed size 4-10, but they work just fine for men's boat shoes and loafers and are stretchable. I'd try those first before purchasing these more expensive pairs.
