I am extremely impressed with the Wool socks; they fit well, look great and do not make your feet hot!
These socks are warm and very long but they pill and get fuzzy very easily in the wash.
I was really happy to find these socks that my husband always wears and at a better price than in stores.

(Sorry Amazon, I didn't buy these socks from you but I did get them from the Goldtoe website.) Something has happened at Goldtoe and there has been a serious decrease in quality. These are not the same product they sold even 2-3 years ago.

Amazon does everyone a serious disservice when they continue to "bundle" comments together on a product that has changed so significantly. All the rave reviews are from 2007-2008. Those reviews reflect my opinion of the the old Windsor Wool, but _NOT_ what they are selling today. Something tells me Goldtoe significantly changed the Windsor Wool formula starting in 2008..

The latest generation of Windsor Wool are now 50% wool, 49% nylon and 1% Spandex. (purchased in October, 2013, made in Mexico). They shrink if you put them in the dryer and start to pill after 1 or 2 wearings. Yes, brown is back, but instead of the brown having severe problems, all the colors are uniformly mediocre( pilling, shrinking, etc).

In Contrast I have some WW from 2008, they are 56% wool, 43% nylon, 1% Spandex (Made in USA). These don't have as severe a problem (except for the brown, which were awful, shrinkage problems, no stretch) but still eventually pill.

I don't have specs for socks before 2008, but I am willing to bet the wool content was significantly different. (I believe they used to be Merlino wool, but not sure).

GOLDTOE: I really don't care what the price point is, I want the original Windsor Wool back (and name the current product something else like "New Windsor wool" or "Windsor Wool 2"). This new stuff is junk

What kind of socks a person likes to wear is purely a matter of personal preference, but I've tried a lot of different types of hosiery over the years, these have turned out to be just about perfect for me. Like all Gold Toe socks, they wear like iron, but they also look and feel great. They are definitely the dressy type made for wearing to the office, but I have found them so comfortable that I also wear them on the weekend, too. While they aren't fluffy like athletic socks, they are still pretty cushy - i.e., not the thin type like a lot of dress socks made for men out of nylon. They have a fairly high wool content, which means they keep your feet dry in the summer and insulated/warm in the winter, but they also have just the right amount of stretch to go on easily and to stay up on your leg. These are definitely on the long side (over the calf), and will come up to an inch or two below your knee, which is where I like them so that they don't roll down on you. I bought both black and blue colors, and after at about 10 to 15 washes, they have proved to be totally colorfast, and have not faded in the least. I highly recommend these as a top quality product.

Do your feet a favor and lose the cotton socks. Go for wool whether winter or summer, and your feet will stay dry and comfortable. OTC is a must because it prevents flesh exposure when you cross your legs, and it's the only length that stays up. Gold Toe is the only brand I buy because the toe is bullet-proof. Other brands develop a hole in just a few wearings even with closely trimmed nails.

I purchased these socks after my Lands End ones ALL developed holes at the heel. Therefore, I was a bit concerned when I first opened the order and found thinner socks than my last ones. I was anticipating holes again and that they would fall below my calves in a matter of weeks. However, it's been several months and so far so good. They are keeping their shape well and are not as hot as the Lands End variety.

The socks fit as expected, but the material beads up after being washed. I have work Gold Toe socks for lots of years, and have been very pleased. This is my first time ordering them online, and am disappointed because the material quality seems inferior to what I have experienced previously.

I've purchased dress socks from Land's End and Jos A. Bank and they're very good, but at $25-$35 a pair, a bit pricey. The gold toe wool dress socks are not quite as thick, and probably not quite as durable, but a great value nonetheless. Highly recommended, very comfortable socks.
Update: After wearing them for a couple of years, I find them to be of very good quality. They don't pill and are very durable, even though a bit thinner than what I was used to. They are now my brand; I will buy nothing else.

These are a little thicker and better quality than most dress socks out there. They are over the calf socks, and therefore give a dressier look than socks that tend to sag/bunch around your ankles. Highly recommended.

These dress socks are the best I've ever had. They stay up over the calf all day and are very comfortable.
