More About the Author

I started my professional career as a technology geek. Most people who know me today regard me as more of a business geek, however. My company, Computer Control Corporation, has been a high profile CRM dealership since the late 1980s. My role in the company has evolved to mostly business management and sales. This seems to fit well now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe I have a different book ..., September 17, 2003
By
noahas (Chicago area, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GoldMine 6 for Dummies (Paperback)
I don't know what others are talking about here ... If you have the slightest comfort level with computers, Goldmine 6 and this book ARE intuitive and very valuable. I will say that I looked at previous versions and found this not ot be the case though.

I figured I would order this book and download the 30 day trial before I made the full commitment to the program. After about 10 days of reading this book and working with the demo. I went ahead and purchased the full program. I haven't been disappointed!

I think the book is very well laid out, and tells you how the program works. As to the criticism that it doesn't tell you how make Goldmine useful for your purposes, there are some examples of what the writer does in his own company and other examples, but I would assume most people would already have an idea of what they are trying to do before they get to this point. The book does tell you how to do that if you already have an idea of where you want to go.

All that being said, if you are serious about using this tool to its fullest, and your livelyhood, find a knowledgeable reseller, and ask them to help you for a couple of hours filling in the fine points of what you are trying to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Never a Dumb Buy "for Dummies", July 21, 2005
This review is from: GoldMine 6 for Dummies (Paperback)
I've been a fan of the "for Dummies" books for some time now. Although my exposure has only covered about a dozen titles, none of them disappoint.

GoldMine 6 is no exception. Perhaps some might think it dumb, I chose to purchase GoldMine 6 despite possessing GoldMine 5 by the same author...feeling confident that the information in "what's new in this release" would more than pay for the inevitable redundancy. It has, indeed.

Scott explains the use of GoldMine 6 in simple (not condescending) language, with a touch of humor and includes the all-important "bombs" alerting readers of potential loss of data or other pitfalls. He incorporates plenty of tips, sidebars and screenshots throughout the book. On occasion, I wish he would have gone into greater detail, but usually you can find enough direction in the software's online help to supplement the book's explanation.

An excellent buy.
