Ronnie Baker Brooks, Chicago's Best of the Best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Golddigger (Audio CD)
The CD Golddigger is a labor of love and dedicated to Ronnie's fans. Also, the song titled "I'll See you Again" was writen to express his feeling and respect for recent loss of many Legendary Bluesmen and Women. His talent and professionism as an artist and musician is displayed throughout this CD and his new CD titled "Take Me Witcha" Which I think is great and an excellent choice. Further, you got to see Ronnie's new DVD recorded live at the Chord on Blues in St. Charles Illinois. Ronnie's performance

RONNIE BAKER BROOKS, SON OF LEGENDARY LONNIE BROOKS (REAL LAST NAME BAKER) RELEASES HIS DEBUT CD ON THE INDEPENDENT LABEL--WATCHDOG RECORDS. GIVEN THE FACT THAT LONNIE RECORDS ON ALLIGATOR RECORDS AND SON RONNIE HAS PERFORMED ON SOME OF THOSE CD'S, YOU HAVE TO WONDER HOW ALLIGATOR LOST OUT ON THIS DEAL. IN ANY EVENT, ALL 12 TRACKS ARE ORIGINALS WRITTEN AND SUNG BY RONNIE BAKER BROOKS. RONNIE PERFORMS MANY OF THE TRACKS USING HIS JIMI HENDRIX SIGNATURE FENDER STRAT AND IF THAT WERE NOT ENOUGH TO LET YOU KNOW WHO HIS HEAVY INFLUENCE WAS, WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR THAT UNMISTAKABLE HENDRIX SOUND ON "SHE'S A GOLDDIGGER". OTHER SONGS HINT AT STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN SUCH AS, "STUCK ON STUPID" AND SOME MAY EVEN HEAR A LITTLE ELVIN BISHOP THROWN IN SOME SONGS FOR GOOD MEASURE. RONNIE GETS HELP FROM DAD ON "MAKE THESE BLUES SURVIVE" AND FROM PRODUCER JELLYBEAN JOHNSON ON "MUST'VE BEEN BOUGHT". FOR A REAL TREAT CATCH RONNIE LIVE. HIS SHOWMANSHIP IS TOP NOTCH. AN EXCEPTIONAL DEBUT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Ronnie's The Real Deal!,

Last Saturday I caught Ronnie live at a small club in Connecticut, and when I say he just ripped it up, well, times two. How happy was I when I listened to the album and found it captured his sound so well: great songs, soulful voice, tight band, and well...that guitar. This is one helluva album from a true up and comer who's already seasoned past his years. And by the way, catch him live if you can; Ronnie really knows how to play to a crowd and you are absolutely guaranteed a great time. You can get on his mailing list for tour dates.

POWERFUL! IN INDIANAPOLIS, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO CATCH RBB LIVE AT THE SLIPPERY NOODLE INN. SINCE THEN, I HAVE EAGERLY AWAITED THE FIRST RELEASE FROM THIS EXTREMELY TALENTED GENTLEMAN! NO DOUBT DESTINED TO BE A LEGEND LIKE HIS DAD, HIS RANGE OF VOCALS AND GUITAR ARE INCREDIBLE. THIS MAN PLAYS GUITAR LIKE NO OTHER! HE'S DONE AN AMAZING JOB COMPILING ALL THE BLUES LEGENDS THAT HE MUST HAVE LOOKED UP TO GROWING UP, INTO A SMOOTH AND UNIQUE SOUND ALL HIS OWN. FROM STEVIE RAY TO JOHN LEE HOOKER, RBB'S GOT IT ALL! OF COURSE TEAMING UP WITH HIS DAD ON "MAKE THESE BLUES SURVIVE" REALLY TOPPED OFF AN ALLREADY GREAT ALBUM! FROM THE BLUESEY "STUCK ON STUPID" TO A ROCKIN "MUST'VE BEEN BOUGHT"THIS ALBUM IS A MUST HAVE FOR EVERYBODY'S MUSIC COLLECTION. SO RARE TO BUY AN ALBUM AND REALLY ENJOY EVERY TRACK!

Just couldn't get enough!,

I first saw Ronnie Baker Brooks at the Cincinnati Blues Fest. The audience got off the ground and crowded to the front when Ronnie played "Stand in Line". "Stuck on stupid", crossed Stevie Ray, Jimmi Hendrix, & maybe AC/DC? We wore out the CD and followed him to "Slippery Noodle Inn" where he showed off by walking up on the table, playing lead with his teeth, behind his neck, and slide with a bottle he picked up off the table. I met him here & he signed the CD. Just a normal guy, with Stevie Rays toutch. Buy It!

Good music, great performer, lousy production on the CD. Lonnie needs to find another recording studio, maybe one not in a basement or a garage.

Ronnie Baker Brooks - Great Debut Album,

Ronnie is the son of Chicago blues legend Lonnie Brooks and "Golddigger" was his debut album. If you like fiery blues guitar with more than a hint of Hendrix this album should appeal to you. Brooks' father and Chicago mainstay Jellybean Johnson both make guest appearances here as well. Brooks mixes traditional blues with a little funk, some soul and a good dose of rock to make a modern blues album in the Chicago tradition. Brooks is a fantastic guitarist and a solid vocalist and with songs like "She's A Golddigger" and "Stuck On Stupid" it is clear that his songwriting chops are top notch as well. For a debut disc, this one is very good and should appeal to anyone who enjoys modern guitar based blues.

Saw him in Iceland Blues festival over Easter 2007. Sensational, touching, intense, sweet and very powerful. Also very professional. We need more from him. This cd is great.

I got to see RBB in Kansas City and he put on a great show. This CD has some serious guitar chops with good writting and singing. Hopefully Ronnie will be picked up by a label soon. This is modern blues - with some rock and a lot of R&B.
