This review is from: The Golden Age of Light Music: The 1930s, Vol. 2 - In Town Tonight (Audio CD)
I have by now reviewed a considerable number of the CDs from this series. I adore them all but this one is my favorite. Granted, I am especially fond of the motion pictures from the 1930's and the music of that decade. If you share this fondness, you simply MUST have this CD. You will recognize a lot of tunes from the movies: For ex: "Badinage" I recall from several of Greta Garbo's films, namely "The Kiss" and probably "A Woman of Affairs". "Ice Rink Selection" was played in Howard Hughes' masterpiece, "Hell's Angels" and in many pictures of the era; it was a popular soundtrack apparently. "A Bouquet of Flowers" I know I've heard in films, the names of which I can't at the moment remember. If you are a devotee of the classics in film, you will be able to "relive" them through this CD! "Guild Light Music" has released, so far I believe, two CDs of the '30's but I would be most grateful if they would produce several more - this music is bouncy, jazzy foot-stomping joy with unsurpassed melodies that charm people of all ages. The technical quality is flawless thanks to the remastering of Alan Bunting. The liner notes provide thorough explanations of the provenance and evolution of this music. I would give this disc more than five stars if that were possible. Highest recommendation!!
