Good; could be better., July 24, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Golden Age of Looney Tunes, Vol. 10: The Art of Bugs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This cartoon video is a pretty good collection, but still, it could be MUCH better. My opinion:
TORTOISE BEATS HARE (Avery,1941):
Plot Summary: Bugs Bunny is rendered helpless by Cecil Turtle in Cecil's debut.
Comments: This is one of my least favorites; maybe it's because I'm not too fond of Cecil. Bugs is out-of-character in this one... BIG TIME. Maybe it's that.
Rating: 3/10
Grade: D
TORTOISE WINS BY A HARE (Clampett,1943):
Plot Summary: Basically, Bugs has a rematch after losing the aforementioned race with Cecil.
Comments: AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!!! SPARE ME!!! The aforementioned cartoon was bad enough, but THIS swill... This one was so bad, it made the aforementioned "Tortoise Beats Hare" look like a classic. How anyone with brain cells can rate this over 1/10, I don't know. The ONLY good parts about this overrated turkey are when Bugs dresses up as an old man, and when, after Bugs( disguised as "the toitle" )gets beaten up, Cecil goes,"Yeah. That's the toitle all right." The rest is utter crap. Oh, by the way, at the end, the rabbits blow their brains out( most likely because of the bad quality of this cartoon )!
Rating: 1/10
Grade: F
RABBIT TRANSIT (Freleng,1947):
Plot Summary: Bugs and Cecil have yet another rematch, with Bugs nearly getting the best of Cecil.
Comments: This is the best of the Bugs/Cecil cartoons, which isn't saying much. Despite the stupid ending, this cartoon is actually pretty good.
Rating: 8/10
Grade: B
BUGS BUNNY GETS THE BOID (Clampett,1942):
Plot Summary: Bugs encounters the slow-witted Beaky Buzzard.
Comments: A very good Bugs Bunny cartoon. Plenty of gags in this one, especially that HILARIOUS scene where Bugs thinks he's dead. This cartoon also marks the first appearance of Beaky Buzzard.
Rating: 10/10
Grade: A
THE OLD GREY HARE (Clampett,1944):
Plot Summary: Poor Elmer Fudd wishes he could catch Bugs for once. So his conscience takes him into the future... to 2000 A.D... a crazy year where Smellivision has replaced Television, and Bing Crosby's horse still hasn't come in yet. Elmer gets Bugs, and remember when they were kids...
Comments: BRILLIANT! In this one, Bugs is everything at once; smart, crazy, nostalgic, sweet, cool, cute, conniving, and funny. Elmer's performance is also great!
Rating: 10/10
Grade: A
BUGS BUNNY RIDES AGAIN (Freleng,1948):
Plot Summary: Yosemite Sam declares himself the "hootin'-est, tootin'-est bob-tailed wildcat in the West", but, at any moment, Bugs is going to make him regret he ever said it.
Comments: A classic Bugs/Yosemite Sam cartoon short.
Rating: 10/10
Grade: A
HAREDEVIL HARE (Jones,1947):
Plot Summary: Bugs goes into space, where he encounters Marvin Martian and his dog, K-9.
Comments: A Jones classic. Plenty of gags in this one. Also, MARVIN MARTIAN'S DEBUT APPEARANCE!
Rating: 10/10
Grade: A
Overall, a great cartoon collection if you fast-forward the first two cartoons, and slightly enjoy the third.

A Kid's Review

I use to have "Tortoise Beats Hare", "Rabbit Transit", and "Bugs Bunny Rides Again" on The Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2 while Grammy and Grampa got "Haredevil Hare", "Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid" and "Tortoise Wins by the Hare", on Looney Tunes Golden Collection, at their house. I've also watched "The Old Grey Hare". So, it's has to be part of Max Goudiss Cartoon Treasures, titled as "Cartoon Treasures presents Bugs Bunny".
