Arcade Classics, gotta love'em...,

This is the sequel to the game Golden Axe, I believe they made three. Either way, all three are fun. They're basic games you probably have seen back in the day in an arcade, but they're great for hours of fun. Bash'n'beat. Even more fun with freinds!

Better than its predecessor,

As Golden Axe is one of my all-time favorite games, I was expecting great things of Golden Axe II. Unfortunately, it just doesn't live up to the original. For one thing, the graphics got uglier. Everything looks lo-res and very drab, though some of the enemies are nicely done. Another thing that sucks about this game is the sound and music: the sound is of the tinny "clink, clink, swish, swish" variety and the music sounds pretty bad. As with the original Golden Axe, you take control of a muscle-bound human warrior, a woman, or a dwarf. Sometimes I play the woman because I get my jollies off of seeing her videogame anatomy, though usually I play the dwarf, because he kicks ass.

Golden Axe 2 owns if you loved Golden Axe 1 you'll enjoy this 1. It's not as remembered like 1st Golden Axe is but is still very good. It has an improved magic system slightly tweaked combat. Now the other reviewers on here say the music sucks the music is actually pretty good not as good as the first games music but still very very solid. This game is a really good sequel. If Golden Axe was the father then Golden Axe 2 is his son and he turned out to be a better kid the the father hoped. Golden Axe 3 is the retarded kid but he's polite and he's 1 of the easiest people to get along with. Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder he's the kid you love so much but he moved away & he hates you. Golden Axe The Duel is an inbred cousin that everyone in the family hates. Golden Axe Beast Rider is the b***h ex wife that divorced you you hate her she hates you. Yes dumb analogy but I compare them like a family. I think Golden Axe went downhill either at the 3rd game or after Golden Axe 3.

Golden axe one was a classic and this game just fell short. The enemies are repetitive, and I think the graphics are in some ways improved and in some ways worse!
Its very similar to the first one, there is a new dark emperor in town, and you gotta do the dirty job. Run around, fight barbarians, evil ghost skeletons with swords, with lots of dragons, magic and sword slashing to keep you entertained for a while.

Golden Axe II is a full action hack n' slash game for sega megadrive/genesis. It offers a wide variety of enemies, attacks and magics. The player can choose between three different characters.
Although its made for the sega genesis console, wich has no savingfunction i felt the game was a bit too short. If you play effectively, the complete game can be done in about 1,5 hours. A good function is that the game has three diffrent difficulties, of wich the easiest does not offer play of the entire campaign.

I would say that video games don't come much simpler than this bore but the likes of Pong and Pac-Man, while less technically sophisticated are still better. Golden Axe 2 is such a chore to play with no fun or enjoyment injected into the proceedings whatsoever.
Again, you can choose from barbarian Ax Battler, amazonian Tyris Flare or dwarf Gillius Thunderhead as you slowly plod your way through a generic as hell fantasy kingdom, hacking and slashing at conveyor belt enemies (who sometimes kill themselves out of sheer stupidity) before you get to the big guy in a suit of armour who has taken over the land because of his evilness or whatever nonsense. I often associate Golden Axe with Streets of Rage since the gameplay in the first games was very similar (I also bought them on the same day back in March 1993). But while the SOR series only got better and more sophisticated I am afraid that Golden Axe just got crapper. It tries to be the gaming equivalent of a big budget Conan movie but comes off as no more than a Roger Corman mini-series. You've never played a game so stripped down and bland as this. Graphics D+ Sound D- Gameplay D- Lasting Appeal F Pros: It's a lot like Golden Axe Cons: It's a LOT like Golden Axe Sound effects are no more than white noise. Baddies all look the same. No point system. Very, very little in the way of power ups. No combo moves. Collision detection is poor. Music is just ghastly. |
