5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent learning fun for preschoolers!, January 23, 2002
This review is from: Golden Book Music Video: 23 Sing, Giggle, & Grin Songs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a wonderful video. A young boy uses his crayons to do magic things that bring favorite children's songs to life. The words appear on the screen and children are expected to sing along with the songs. A young orange elephant wants to go to the animal fair but her mother says her friend Sally must go too. And there is this hilarious purple spider that children will get excited about. Speaking of spiders, the popular nursery rhyme about the Eency Weency Spider is also featured in this video, and that version refers to that same purple spider! The song I disliked most was the one about the sow and her three little piggies, because it just stunk. But all the others songs were totally cool, especially "Zum Gali Gali," "Do Your Ears Hang Low" and "Pop Goes the Weasel." I, being a 16 year old boy, have given my copy to my four year old second cousin who is somewhat mature for his age. But I would recommend this video for many young children around. And it is DEFINITELY better than Rainy Day Finger Play and Fun Songs!

I am 18 years old now, but I still remember this video. It was one of the first ones I watched. It introduced me to music and to the "sing-along" concept. They didn't need the "follow-the-bouncing-ball" approach. They just showed simple white Arial-fonted words on the screen. Even the animation was limited, but I didn't care. I do remember that it had traditional songs and some songs that have been unheard of. The story that was built around the songs was interesting as well. I wish I could see this video again because it's been a long time since I've last seen it.

I am the oldest of 4 girls, and every one of us watched and loved this video as kids. This video is not only fun, but the music is catchy and memorable. So much so, that 10 years after our video finally died, my sisters and I can still sing the songs. I am now 27 years old and buying it for my 18 month old son. If any video should be brought back in DVD format, it should be this one. I totally recommend this video to anyone with young children!

When my 23 month-old daughter gets cranky, this is one of the videos that immediately gets her calm. And 35-year old myself am waiting for the next time I play this video for my baby. I love the presentation and singing.
