golden boy is a short 6 episode anime series that has a good sense of teen humor, for american audiences, its close to say its the animated version of American Pie. I always have a good laugh watching this once a while, and if you are in the animation business, you should definitely check it out, the last episode pretty much connects to what real life studio job would be like. the style of anime, is various when it comes to exaggerated expressions, not always your typical sterotypes anime faces. to sum it up, this anime is just really fun for shorts and if you have imagination and a sense of humor, (and reached puberty), check it out.

Golden Boy is about a boy who searches for the meaning of life and everything life can teach. The story line was well written and the story itself was hilarious. I bought this for only 12 dollars and i think it was the best 12 dollars i have ever spent on an anime. Kintaro is just a lovable, hilarious guy who makes you keep watching. I've already watched the series twice, but there are only six episodes. Speaking of this, the negatives about the series came in the fact that it was too short and the viewer i guess could predict the end of each episode fairly well. However, i loved the series. I watched it with my girlfriend and she's not into this kinda stuff (anime, and especially anime with sex comedy), but she actually loved it as well. I just wish there were more episodes. So if you love a good laugh, i would buy this series, especially since it's so cheap. :]

Kintaro Oe is a man that thrives on learning. He was a college student who excelled in all his classes, but left the university before he graduated. Alone, he decided to travel on a road to self-discovery, but instead of hitchhiking his way to Alaska where he'll live on a bus and dies of food poisoning, Kintaro rides his bike from town to town in a quest to work on random jobs for knowledge. Whether it's being a swimming coach, a computer technician, a babysitter, or a ramen cook, Kintaro won't be interfered from getting the experience he wants. Well, except for hot women and toilets.
Episode one has Kintaro working as a janitor in a computer industry while hitting on bodacious babes. Episode dos has Kintaro supporting a corrupt mayor candidate while hitting on his bodacious daughter. The third episode has Kintaro making ramen while protecting a not-so-bodacious ramen cook's girl from a sleazeball who's trying to take over the ramen cook business. Episode of 4 has Kentaro teaching kids how to dog paddle in a community pool while hitting on a bodaciously-tanned professional swimmer. The raunchy episode no.5 has Kentaro doing butler work in a traditional Japanese home while hitting on a bodacious babe with a "peculiar" motorcycle fetish. In the most bodacious of final episodes, and also the only one with actual ties to the past episodes, the finale has Kentaro working on a bodacious animated studio in trouble of gettin' a bodacious project to finish, so he called the bodacious gals from before to help him and a bodacious animator to get things done in a big bodacious climax. Ecchi, or racy anime, can be a cheap and un-bodacious array of panty shots, cleavage screen hogs, and scenes of convenient tripping into a girl's locker room..."Golden Boy" is the same. However, "Golden Boy" does these aspects in a way that's unpredictable and outrageous; that's what I love about this anime. Kentaro is such a likable pervert, he handles a crisis with such level-headedness and he's such a caring guy overall that I find him admirable, even with his odd fetishes. He also happens to be an idiot-savant, though might be too savant, especially in the first episode when solved a computer problem in one day even though never touched one; that's quite a stretch. Another thing I love about "Golden Boy" is how it diverges from the usual fanservice stuff. All of the babes here are hardly ditzy but are competent and quite abrasive towards the lead if he goes too far; the girl from the episode three was refreshing in that she's not a looker, yet episode three is still my favorite episode because not only is it endearing, but that one "kissing" scene was insanely hilarious. Episode two has an innocent girl who gets into these fanservice moments on purpose so she can ruin that boy's life. Episode four is a minor rehash of episode one, but at least Kentaro didn't succeed in the job like before. The way this anime handles racy content is still fresh, and it's from the mid-90s. The english dialogue is very poor, but that's a good thing. Doug Smith, the dub actor who plays Kentaro, delivers his lines with such hamminess plus the way the ladies act so breathy that the anime has a vintage Skinemax appeal for itself. The dub actually has more entertainment value than the original Japanese. Each of the six episodes stand on their own, so I can watch any episode I want and still have a good time. I could say I don't recommended "Golden Boy" for those who had the previous DVDs, but I never own them before and I bought this complete series for 15 bucks. That's a great deal for an anime that has as much laughs and heart as it has skin-tight clothing.

Very funny comedy anime. Only 6 episodes long but very enjoyable. I watched it when I was a kid but got it here on Amazon years later. Good to watch at the end of the week when you need to relax and have a good laugh.

I remember being introduced to Golden Boy when it first came out on VHS, from a friend of mine. Each episode was completely insane, hilarious at the same time. The only thing I didn't like about it, was the fact it only had 6 episodes! And when I bought my first copy or I should say "copies" since they only had 3 episodes per tape, it only came in a dubbed version. Personally, I love to watch the subbed versions of any anime title that I watch, but Golden Boy was one of just a few exceptions that I could tolerate watching dubbed. Now, to my great surprise and pleasure I am glad to finally add the complete 6 episode series that they put onto 2 DVD's, but all in one DVD case.
So if anyone out there reading this, and would like to laugh your ass off with the completely over the top and sometimes disturbing scenes from each episode, then this should absolutely be in your collection.

Funny, Thoughtful....And a Bit Pervy,

This review is from: Golden Boy: The Complete Series (DVD)
Golden Boy is a 6-episode OVA*, based on the manga of the same name, that tells the story of a young man named Kintaro Oe. The day before Kintaro was supposed to graduate from law school with honors, he walked away from it all to become instead a "freeter" i.e. free spirit or wandering worker, pedaling from town to town, job to job, on his bike. In Japanese culture this sort of behavior is a very big deal indeed, and marks our hero as a real free thinker....actually a bit of an oddball. But Kintaro figures there is a lot more to study, a lot more to learn in life, than he could ever possibly learn trapped in an office or a courtroom. And since, for him, knowledge, self-improvement is the single most important thing, he's willing to turn his back on the money and social prestige that could easily have been his as a lawyer, and instead live this sort of hand-to-mouth, itinerant, low-paid worker life that is INFINITELY more interesting. This series is FUNNY. In every episode Kintaro meets a different, incredibly hot woman, and always, in an attempt to win her affections, he must master a particular, challenging skill. He always does, and always wins her affections - and lust - but at the very end something always happens to prevent the consummation, the payoff, for all his hard work. My favorite Golden Boy episode is "B@!!$ to the Wall" in which Kintaro, to win the favors of a woman with an, ahem! unnatural affection for her motorcycle, challenges her to a race, her on her Bimoto, him on his....bicycle. Speaking of unnatural affections, Kintaro has an absolute fetish for toilets, especially those that have just been sat on by beautiful women, that is absolutely hilarious to watch. Not your typical TV show, or even you typical anime, fer sher. * Original Video Animation (OVA), or Original Animation Video (OAV), is an acronym used in Japan for anime series that are released directly to video, without being first broadcast on television or released in theaters. As a general rule OVA anime tends to be of high quality, approaching that of films. OVA titles tend to often have a very regular, continuous plot which is best enjoyed if all episodes are viewed in sequence. (Definition from WordIQ.com)

The packaging is very standard and semi-cheap looking, but SO worth it. Golden Boy is one of my favorite animes and makes me laugh every time. I can watch it again and again and keep seeing something new. I sooo wish there were more than 6 episodes, but c'est la vie.
Highly reccomended!

Hilariously Funny Anime for 18+,
By Jason Smith (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Golden Boy: The Complete Series (DVD)
This is probably the funniest anime that I have seen to date. Each and every episode is packed with all kinds of funny predicaments that the main character gets himself into and by the end of each episode he manages to get the incredibly hot lady that hated him in the beginning of the episode to fall in love with him but have no way of contacting him. He also seems to have a thing for the toilets that the women sit on and for breast.
You will not be disapointed in watching this anime, the art style is a little bit dated but its really really funny to watch, even funnier then Shin Chang which is another popular anime comedy (but that one is heavily censored).

I highly recommend this series, as it is clever and witty. It does have a decent amount of adult material, so please take that into consideration if you are thinking about purchasing it for a child.
