5.0 out of 5 stars 4 of 10 'Pop' hits and 1 b-side - PLUS 1 hit and b-side that charted on 'Rhythm & Blues' only!, March 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Golden Classics (Audio CD)
This 'Collectables' label 'Golden Classics' collection has not included several of Clark's hits.
There are 19 tracks here, and some VERY good music,
but if you're looking for Clarks single releases there are other compilations that contain more.
Clark had ten singles chart between 1958 and 1963 on the POP chart, four are here and one b-side.
Eight of those same songs were also on the RHYTHM & BLUES chart,
with much higher chart numbers then on the pop chart.
But Clark had one song that charted on the R&B chart only, that song and it's b-side are here.

The charted songs in this compilation are:
1. "Noboby but you" 1958, his 1st single release just missed the pop top 20. (r&b top 5)
2. "Hey little girl" 1959, his 3rd release was a pop top 20 hit. (r&b 5)
3. "Raindrops" 1961, his 8th single was a pop top 5 hit. (r&b top 5)
4. "Crossfire time" b/w "I'm going home", 1963 his 10th and last release to make the pop chart.
This song bearly made it into the top 100. (r&b top 40)
5. "Hearkbreak" b/w "Warm summer breezes" 1964 just missed the top 40,
RHYTHM & BLUES chart only, and was his last song to chart in the U.S.A.

Dee Clark has always been one of my favorite artists, so I was searching for a more comprehensive collection.
At the very least, most of his hits.
A great song and top 20 hit in 1959 that is missing here, is the bouncy tune "Just keep it up".
It looks like a collector would need this C.D. in addition to one of the other hits collections.
Not just for the last two singles that are hard to find, and are here.
But because some of these other tracks are VERY good music!

Footnote: The c.d. "DEE CLARK RAINDROPS" contains 20 tracks,
also here on amazon, has nine of the ten singles, plus the b-sides of three.
"Crossfire time", "I'm going home", "Heartbreak" and "Warm summer breezes" aren't on this C.D.
This U.K. import is on the Neon label, my copy had a sticker on the case saying 'Made in Germany'.
Neon has licensed their 20 tracks from 'Charly Rhythm & Blues'.

The C.D. "DEE CLARK - RAINDROPS 32 Hit Records" from Charly Rhythm & Blues label is another good collection.
Nine of the ten pop hits are here also. The four above mentioned songs aren't.
All three C.D.'s are original recordings.

Further comments can be found for "DEE CLARK RAINDROPS"
and "DEE CLARK - RAINDROPS - 32 Hits Records" at both those locations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Old Music, June 12, 2001

If you like the true OLD R & R, you'll love this one. Dee hit it big with "Raindrops" and "Nobody But You." The other songs lack the exposure, but it's all good.
