5.0 out of 5 stars Music to Move You
This music sadly wasn't as long lasting or as durable throughout the years as some of their contemporaries works. The Free Movement filled a niche along with groups such as The Delfonics (Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time) and The Five Stairsteps (O-o-h Child). 3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, not overly essential or exciting
It is great to see an obscure band like this get a full CD release to explore their material. I enjoy Fifth Dimension, Cornelius Bros., Friends Of Distinction and while this has a very similar sound there is something lacking. The male vocals are a bit too on the gospel baritone side for my liking, while the female vocals are smooth & light, tackling some cover tunes...

This music sadly wasn't as long lasting or as durable throughout the years as some of their contemporaries works. The Free Movement filled a niche along with groups such as The Delfonics (Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time) and The Five Stairsteps (O-o-h Child). Besides the obvious choices, my favourite song on this album is "If Only You Believe". This tune was also covered by Gayle McCormick (ex Smith) as the "B" side of "It's a Cryin" Shame". If you happen across this album on Amazon pick it up. If you don't know the music well you soon will and will hopefully tell others. Keep it alive, it deserves a listen.

A real treat for genuine R&B - Soul music lovers. Brings back the 70's whenever their songs are played. "The Harder I Try" is very good indeed. It seams , once you get to play "The harder I try", the harder it seems for you not to play it again and again. Too bad it's The Freedom Movements only album you can review here.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic album for R & B soul music lovers., January 20, 1999

One of the greatest musicians produced by the magnificent 70s. The songs, "I've Found Someone of My Own", "The Harder I Try" and "IF Only You Believe" can be played over R & B stations and will score well in the charts. The mystery is no one can find the band members now...maybe we should try harder.

It is great to see an obscure band like this get a full CD release to explore their material. I enjoy Fifth Dimension, Cornelius Bros., Friends Of Distinction and while this has a very similar sound there is something lacking. The male vocals are a bit too on the gospel baritone side for my liking, while the female vocals are smooth & light, tackling some cover tunes. None of the material is really ear-catching though, thus resulting in only two minor charting songs. My heading sums it up really. Enjoyable, nice performance, but the material is just not up to par with the other groups mentioned, and unless you are a hardcore smooth R&B collector, this is not an overly essential or exciting buy.

Contains their only two charted hits, the Top 5 "I've Found Someone Of My Own" from Decca and the Top 50 "The Harder I Try" from Columbia. The entire album is smooth and worh listening to.

Free movement was a group that came along at the wrong time. At the height of the disco craze it was difficult for good music to make a mark. Free movement could well have been one of the premier groups of the 70's, but, alas, the music didn't drone on and on like the typical hit of that time. Glad to see great music available again.
