5.0 out of 5 stars Just about sums up Johnny Tillotson's golden years., February 15, 2000

This album captures the essence of the musical career of Johnny Tillotson during the Fifties and Sixties.

Best cuts are the rock and rolling Poetry In Motion; the exultant True True Happiness; Pledging My Love; Without You; the fast paced Cutie Pie; It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin, Johnny's self-penned song which at first hearing gives the impression of being about losing a girl but is actually a paean to his dead father; Send Me The Pillow; Hank Williams' I Can't Help It and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry; and Willie Nelson's Funny How Time Slips Away.

Technically, the recording is okay and retains its 'punch' despite the pre-stereo technology. That the songs are able to stand out despite the not-so-advanced technology tells us a lot about their quality.

After hearing the whole album, true true happiness came to this Johnny Tillotson fan!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound Quality, Some in Stereo, July 18, 1998

This is a typical reissue of Johnny Tillotson's early hits. Included in true stereo are "Poetry In Motion" and the more rare "Talk Back Trembling Lips". Eighteen tracks in all, seven are in true stereo. Sound quality could be from the original master tapes, although there is no mention of this is on the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't You Still Remember?, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Golden Classics (Audio CD)
Did Johnny's romantic tunes fail to make you feel "cool"? Is that why no review in over five years?! Well! Besides his early stuff, there's a whole wealth of tunes (which were also hit singles) from his 1962 album, "It Keeps Right on A-Hurtin'", the double-sided hit single of Hank Williams, Sr.'s "I Can't Help It"/"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", and "Send Me the Pillow That You Dream On" written by another Hank. There's the summer of '63's "You Can Never Stop Me Loving You" and from a year or so later, a song from prolific songwriter/singer John D. Loudermilk, "Talk Back Trembling Lips" also recorded for the country charts by Ernest Ashworth. For good measure there's Willie Nelson's "Funny How Time Slips Away", which also was well-done in a soulful version by Jimmy Elledge for RCA in 1961, adequately serviced here by Johnny. There is more than one good Tillotson compilation. This is one of them.

I wanted all the JT songs we had on our juke box at home as a child and this CD fits all my wishes! I wish it had shipped faster, but am so very pleased with the memories of my childhood!

It is so great to be able to sing along with old songs where you can actually ear the words!!

The sound quality is very good and the tracks seem to be original. The CD had all of the major pop hits I wanted from the allmusic list.

FYI: I've been a record collector and sometimes deejay since the 1950s.
