4.0 out of 5 stars THE DRUMMER FROM ELTON'S GLORY DAYS....SOLID SOLO!, April 4, 2000

A must for any ELTON JOHN fan, the cd issue I have is from SONY imports (JAPAN). The track listing is the same. This album was originally released in 1979. The song "DANCIN' SHOES" was the single that got air play in CANADA and had modest success on the charts. As a whole I really enjoy this cd, it is standard MOR of the day. There is a good cover of BILLY JOEL's "SAY GOODBYE TO HOLLYWOOD" and "CASSEY BLUE/AU REVOIR" could easily fit on any ELTON JOHN album. NIGEL has a great voice as any ELTON fan knows and he sat behind the kit for many great ELTON songs. There are many guest musicians which include....MIKE BAIRD, RAY COOPER, DAVID FOSTER, RICHIE ZITO and more. Produced by PAUL DAVIS and NIGEL OLSSON. The original title of the album was simply "NIGEL" and if you love ELTON you'll simply love this CD. Brian at ufo_rocks@hotmail.com

I had heard Nigel play along with Elton John years ago, but the first time I heard his song "Au revoir" I thought it was a masterpiece... and I still do.
All of the songs in this album are great... some are new to me, though.
I highly recommend this album. I saw it in AMAZON, and I just had to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars All that good drumwork and he can sing, too.., May 11, 2001

Remember the "good old days" when Elton John was showing us how to crocodile rock? And when he had the "dream team" band of all time? Nigel Olsson had and still has a huge following, starting with those days. Arguably rock's best drummer, EVER, he remains the Prince of Drumsticks. However, that was only one side of the man who seemed, in the early seventies to be all hair and long skinny legs. As a popular Nigel Olsson website says, "Drummers Can Sing, Too." This offering includes "Dancin Shoes," "A Little Bit of Soap," and the fabulously done "Say Goodbye to Hollywood." And you have the added benefit of getting Nigel both on drums and lead vocals. Wonderful! There is mix of different styles, slow and semi-fast,but all good. I'm not quite sure about the ending of one or two of them, but, if you like good drumming and seventies music, give it a listen. Elton should NEVER have changed drummers!

by releasing this great cd for people who dont have a record player, nigel has done it again for his fans. this is nigel at his finest. he made it into the top 20 with his smash remake of dancin' shoes. this is a "must have" for anyone who calls themselves a fan of nigel olsson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elton's Finest Drummer On His Own, December 2, 2001
This review is from: Golden Classics Edition (Audio CD)
This is a compilation of several solo albums Nigel Olsson released back in the 1970's, soon after his first departure from the Elton John band (Now that he's back drumming for Elton John, let's hope he stays where he belongs for the rest of Elton's touring days.). Featured on this CD is Nigel's minor hit "Dancin' Shoes" and one of my favorite covers of Billy Joel's "Say Goodbye To Hollywood". Fans of Olsson's distinctively melodic style of drumming will appreciate this CD for more of that style as well as his superb singing. Those who aren't acquainted with Nigel's drumming should listen to this CD and most of Elton John's CDs from the 1970's and early 1980's. Often underrated as one of rock and roll's great drummers, Olsson deserves to be called the "Evelyn Glennie" of rock and roll.
