If you are looking for a good compilation of the hit singles of Barbara Lewis and cannot decide between this Collectables effort and the one from Rhino, you need only consider a few salient points.

Rhino's offering, entitled Hello Stranger - The Best Of Barbara Lewis, has 4 more selections and costs less than this one. It has all ten of her Hot 100 singles for Atlantic scored between 1963 and 1967, whereas Collectables omits exactly half her hit total. The Rhino set includes two B-sides, one that "bubbled under" on the Hot 100, and several failed singles, including her first from 1962. Collectables, from tracks 10 through 16, offer obscure cuts that might have been culled from her albums or, perhaps, from her Stax period which produced no hits.

The Rhino compilation also has seven pages of comprehensive liner notes by David Nathan, a complete discography of its contents, and lists all six Atlantic LPs.

If that isn't anough consider this 1994 quote by Barbara: "What I like especially about the Rhino package is that there are some songs on here that I'd forgotten! I thought the selections were well chosen and include some of my better performances, and I think this collection will stand up more than some of the other packages that have been done before."

Or since, I may add. Collectables comes in a distant second. Again.
