My mom kept this around the house when I was a child as a quick and tasty meal. I do the same. I prepare hearty chunks of chicken, potato, onion, carrot, green beans, and cauliflower and simmer in chicken broth until tender. Add frozen peas, followed by the sauce mix. Serve over rice with condiments consisting of plain unsweetened yogurt, lime and lemon pickle, mango pickle, and/or chutney. ANY meat and broth or water may be used.

For a very quick meal--use frozen mixed vegetable medley as your veggies.

For the vegetarian/vegan--use vegetables of choice and cook in vegetable broth or water.

I've tried numerous types of curries from all sorts of different stores - Indian grocers, fancy overpriced grocery stores, spice stores, heck, even Walmart. But of all the different types of curry spice mix I've used over the years to make my vegetable curry, the S&B brand is the best.

Before I moved, I would drive an hour into downtown Pittsburgh to this grungy Asian food store to buy ten of these boxes at a time. However, since I left the area I haven't been able to find any store which sells S&B, so I'm particularly thrilled to see that Amazon has it available.

I know it's weird to get this excited over a spice, but I absolutely LOVE vegetable curry and I make it all the time, so I'm very happy I have a new source to purchase my favorite spice from.

Of course, I should mention that this is a JAPANESE curry blend, not Indian, so if you're looking for more traditional flavored curry, I'm not sure if my review would help. But personally, I think that this spice blend tastes the best. Use your own judgement.

I love this stuff. I used to live in Japan and ate a lot of curry at that time, but had gone off Japanese style curries for many years until I saw this in my local Asian supermarket and decided to give it a try for old times' sake.

Wow, I had forgotten how delicious it is. This particular one is not too spicy, but even "hot" in a Japanese curry won't be anything like a nice hot Thai curry or an Indian vindaloo. Mild, tasty stuff.

Although it is made with water, the end result is pretty thick because the first item on the ingredients list is wheat flour. This is followed by oils (palm, soy, canola), salt, sugar, curry powder, spices, caramel color, monosodium glutamate, malic acid, disodium guanylate, and disodium inosinate.

They say there are 110 calories per serving, 70 of those from fat, and 12 servings to the box. Each serving has 7 grams of fat, 4 of which are saturated. No cholesterol or trans-fats, but 990 mg of sodium or 41% of the daily recommended limit. Carbs aren't too bad at just 9 g per 20 g serving, but as usual with these things the numbers seem deflated by a pretty small definition of "serving". A lot of people will probably think of two or three servings as being the right size for a normal meal.

This product makes a thick, tasty, curry-flavored goo of fatty and starchy goodness, enriched with MSG. (I actually like making it a little thicker by reducing the amount of water recommended in the instructions.) Fantastic, but I'm going to try to make it an occasional treat rather than regular fare. Wish me luck.

I love curry, kids love it too. I like this brand, I get the one without MSG, only wish it was bigger. For such a small batch, it's expensive. If you can get it at your local grocery store, I recommend that route.

LOVE S&B!

Whenever we go up the road to Disney World my daughter and I have lunch in Japantown and we always get their curry dish. One day she asked if we could make it at home. I was skeptical but found this curry sauce mix at the store and decided to give it a try. We were both delighted at the outcome - identical, or very near it, with the curry sauce we get in Japantown. Yummy stuff!

I loved the Golden curry. Best curry I ever had and I tried all kinds from Caribbean to homemade Japanese Style. The only thing I don't like about the product is the listed price and I have prime so of course if would be higher. Went to Walmart and saw the same product for $2 and some change versus $6 and some change, very disappointed

I spent the summer in Japan several years ago and fell in love with Japanese curry sauce -- very dark and thick and mild, almost the consistency of gravy, with an earthy/meaty flavor (which I'm sure comes from MSG, but I don't care because it tastes great).

After trying and trying (and failing) to make it at home using every recipe I could find, I discovered Golden Curry mild sauce mix. It is fantastic and exactly like the curry I got in Japan!! I love how versatile it is too. You can mix the sauce up plain and put it over rice, cook it with veggies or meat, add it to soup, whatever. Great mix!

4 chicken thighs, browned. (Or about a pound of skinless, boneless breast strips.) Add 2 1/2 cups water and simmer till cooked through. (If your water boils off, add more to bring you back to 2 1/2 cups before proceeding.) Toss in the S&B golden curry mix, and stir till sauce mix is blended and thickened, which takes just a few minutes. You can toss in onions and carrots during the simmering, but that is IMHO quite unnecessary. Serve with rice, and spoon the generous amount of gravy this makes over anything and everything on the plate. I'm a hit and miss cook, but this is a resounding hit every time.
