Book Description

December 1991
Through the eyes of a ten-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, Golden Daffodils takes a sad and funny look at every pre-teen's struggle to grow up.

"Only sixty seconds left for a miracle to happen, some special thing that would make her perfect and normal. Her last chance to enter Wilson School looking like other kids."

Today's the day. And Janis wakes up worried about everything. She already misses Tina, a budding poet and her best friend at the special school. Physical handicaps were as everyday as homework there. But here at Wilson, how will she ever fit in--with normal kids like her beautiful and athletic sister Stella. Thinking about her favorite flowers, daffodils, helps a little. She puts on her "DAFFY DOWN DILLY" tee shirt for luck.

Janis wants to be perfect like other kids.

Stella wishes everyone didn't expect her to be so perfect.

Barney says, "Imagine yourself perfect and that's what you'll be."

But they all find out no one's perfect; yet with love and friendship life can have its perfect moments.

She has been appearing at schools and talking to children, parents, teachers, and librarians for over twenty-five years. She is an animated teacher, a mesmerizing storyteller, and a prolific author of fiction and nonfiction for all ages. Marilyn enjoys entertaining children as she teaches. She likes to tell anecdotes about getting ideas, developing colorful characters, choosing names and titles, enhancing stories with synonyms, figures of speech, dialogue and humor. It is her aim to encourage writers to risk being original and creative, to look at the world as a story, and to consider reading an adventure and writing an exciting pastime. Marilyn has taught all grades, kindergarten through college, is at ease with any size audience, and tailors her talks accordingly.
