5.0 out of 5 stars What this book means to me..., March 20, 2000

This review is from: The Golden Egg Book (Golden Lap Book) (Hardcover)
As a child I used to check this book out of the libarary EVERYTIME I went. I remember crying one week because the only copy available was the one I was returning and they hadn't put it back on the shelf and I couldn't take it home. My best friend and I would read and re-read this book. We just loved the bunny kicking, rolling, and jumping on the egg and then the same happening to him when he fell asleep and the egg hatched. The bunny and duck became best friends, I met my best friend through reading this book in 1965 and we are still best friends today. I cried when my mom gave me and my friend copies of this book a couple of years ago as a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fond Memories, February 11, 2000
This review is from: The Golden Egg Book (Golden Lap Book) (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book! As a young immigrant child some 30 years ago this was one of the first books I ever read and thoroughly digested. Simple and touching, this should be a required book in every child's repertoire. The sooner the better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful For Young Children, December 3, 2003
By A Customer
I read this to my 2 year old niece every time I see her. We have a different edition, I think, and the pictures are simply beautiful. The text is such that my niece can easily follow along and even remembers certain parts by heart. It is a wonderful story that really captures and holds the attention of a young child. A simply wonderful story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Toddlers!, September 3, 2002

My grandparents gave me a copy of this book for my first Easter, in 1960. My mom says I loved it, then my subsequent siblings, nephews, and nieces loved it some more. My old, "well-loved" copy is literally falling apart.

Every night in the last month, my 17-month-old has wordlessly gone to her bookshelf, grabbed my old book and plopped into my lap to read her favorite book. If she is reluctant to finish getting ready for bed, all I have to do is show her the book, and she quickly waddles over and plops down.

But tonight when she opened my old book, the pages weren't there ... they'd all fallen out ... even with all the years' accumulation of tape. With some trepidation, I logged on after she was in bed, hoping to find at least an old copy with a used-book seller through Amazon (a handy feature that has helped out in similar situations.) I was thrilled to find it had been reissued. We'll add a new layer of tape to the old one to hold on until the new copy arrives. We'd like to thank the publishers and Amazon ... I suspect the new copy will be in a similarly "loved" state in another 40 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read 100 times, April 30, 2002
I read this over 100 times to my daughter when she was little. I also read it that many times when I was a child. I love this book and any books by Margaret Wise Brown. Also read the Whispering Rabbit and loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The classics are always the best!, June 25, 2001
This review is from: The Golden Egg Book (Hardcover)
I loved this book as a child and was delighted to see that it's still around. Leonard Weisgard's rich illustrations are wonderful, and I'm still charmed by the story of the bunny and the egg. It's great to be introducing this book to a new generation of nieces and nephews!

5.0 out of 5 stars It will make you ponder, laugh, and leave a warm feeling...., February 3, 1999
By A Customer
Eleven years ago, at age two, this was my oldest sons favorite book. Now I find myself searching my memory and shelves in order to obtain another copy so that I might share this classic with his baby brother. After all these years it is everything he and I remember. The text is enchanting and the illustrations are endearing. A great opportunity for parent and child to speculate, laugh and snuggle together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mommy, Read it again...., October 21, 2001
I read this book to my little brother over a hundred times! Now - waiting to get my copy for my daughter. She loves bunnies and I know that she'll want to hear the story again -and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A touching, delicious early lesson in empathy, November 8, 1999
First of all, I must confess, the 1962 edition of this book was one of my own childhood favorites. The friendship between the bunny and the duck still makes my eyes tear up by the last page. . . and heck, I'm 35! The sweetness and warmth of this story is just classic.

This is a perfect choice for a preschool reader. The adventures repeat; so a kid gets to read similar phrases twice. The beautiful animal drawings will easily charm any child, and the adorable ending will put a little kid happily to sleep, if you use "The Egg Book" as a bedtime story.

I just fervently hope that NO CHILD will EVER have to grow up without the "Egg Book"!
