I just had to share my delight in a new CD of Egyptian music that I bought recently: Leyla Lanty presents "Golden Days, Enchanting Nights" WOW! I love this CD. Khalil Abboud is a fabulous singer and the women doing the background singing are excellent. My favorite piece is the first track; very emotional and lots of interesting changes to the music. The second track is a different arrangement of an older song and it adds a new level to music that I already loved. The fourth track is very witty. Khalil Abboud sings, "I do one thing, you don't like it. I do the opposite, you don't like it. What else can I do? What else do you want?" Leyla was kind enough to include the English translation for the songs. It makes such a difference when you know to what you are dancing. The sound is clear, the drumming amazing, lots and lots of emotion conveyed without sounding overdone...an all around great CD. --Zohra Mustafa, dance instructor

This recording is fresh, yet traditional. There are romantic songs that aren't syrupy. There are soft breaks and changes for accents, done without over percussing or betraying traditional Eastern styling. All of the cuts are danceable. You can hear turns, relevés, and Arabesques in the music, as well as earthy, grounded elements. It seems Leyla surely must have added input from a dancer s perspective. The full orchestra, especially on Leyla's Music, is wonderful, and Khalil s voice very stirring. He has a warm, mature tone. --F. Ramadhani
