Any George Jones CD would get a fantastic review from me and this one is no exception. My only two gripes with this one are that it is too short and not all the songs are the original recordings.

Case in point: "Race Is On", "She Thinks I Still Care" "Tender Years", and "White Lightnin'". This may actually be my favorite version of The Race Is On (slightly faster than the United Artist original), but She Thinks I Still Care (while better than his 1977 Epic version) falls way short of the U.A. recording, and Jones should've never recorded this version of "White Lightnin'" (actually, my favorite version of "White Lightnin'" is the 1977 Epic recording on "All Time Greatest Hits".

"Good Year for the Roses", "Take Me", "I'll Follow You (Up to Our Cloud)", "Walk Through This World With Me", "When the Grass Grows over Me", and "Things Have Gone to Pieces" are all flawless, perfect Jones classics.

I could think of many more classic Musicor recordings that should've been on here, but this is one of the earliest compilations of the classic Jones hits from the '60s. I first bought this collection on cassette tape in 1985, and bought it on CD in the mid '90's. Since than, better all around Jones hit collections have come out, so I've bought them and sold my copy of this one in a yard sale.

If you've heard George Jones and think you may like some of his earlier music, this may be a collection for you to buy. It's a good "sampler" of his many, many 1960's recordings and is reasonable in price also.

Buy it. If you like Country Music, you'll love this collecion.

Many Jones fans are awaiting (including myself) a good release of his Musicor work. While this serves as a good sampler, it is lacking in several respects. First of all, as I mentioned, this is Musicor work, so "Race Is On" and "White Lightning", for instance, are not presented in their original form. While that's not bad for us fans of his Musicor work, it's not really the "hit" version. Another complaint is evidence of vinyl sources show through on every song. It's not to say that the sound quality is "bad", but you're really not getting any better than a vg++ vinyl version of the music. Until a better Musicor retrospective surfaces, this one is, even for all of the faults that are highlighted, a must have.

What can I say? George Jones, legend of country, has about fifty million greatest hits albums. If they combined his actual "best" songs into a set and disposed of the mediocre ones it would be great.Nonetheless, I do have to say that this one is excellent throughout. All good classic Jones tunes. Usually his hits albums have three or four really outstanding songs and then the rest is filler. Not so with this one. A truly fun recording!
