This review is from: Golden Hits: Volumes 1, 2, & 3 (MP3 Download)
Holy cow! The lyrics to Jenny Lee, Recorded in Jan's garage, are easily understandable! I have not bought the collection, but am currently streaming it in Rhapsody.
In the late 70's my parents bought me the Jan and Dean Anthology, which turned out to be one of the greatest albums to me a fan. I have been waiting for this next step up from the vinyl - a collection containing many songs from the Anthology, remastered for a spectacular listening experience. Like every music group, they cranked out song after song, many extremely weak. However, I can go all the way through many of these time after time: Surf City, Drag City, Dead Man's Curve, The New Girl in School, The Little Old Lady From Pasadena, Anaheim, Azusa..., Ride the Wild Surf, Sidewalk Surfin', Barbara Ann, Little Deuce Coupe...It is awefully hard to find anyting better than this collection for me. Lest you think I'm a Beach Wimp, I also listen to to Deep Purple and Judas Priest. I do understand the limited appeal of beach music, but, you will know whether or not this is for you. For a Jan and Dean collection, this is the cream of the crop. |
